Football

Here are a couple of interesting articles about Auburn football. Obviously they are not about academics, but it sure says a lot about the school spirit and its people.

Regarding football and its atmosphere at Auburn University, if you are a high school student who participates in marching band, then consider the Auburn University Marching Band ( [The Auburn University Bands Home](http://band.auburn.edu/) ). This 380 member band is the largest student organization on campus. Besides playing in the stand during the game, the band members participate in the march around the field 1 hour before kickoff, and just before kickoff are introduced with their own video which rocks the house and the band ignites the crowd when they high step onto the field for Pre-Game ( [YouTube - 2010 Auburn Marching Band Intro Video](<a href=“2010 Auburn Marching Band Intro Video - YouTube”>2010 Auburn Marching Band Intro Video - YouTube) ). In addition, they usually play a 3 song set for halftime.
My DD is a freshman member of the band and absolutely loves the marching band. It helps ease the transition to college and make friends during Pre-Season camp before school starts.
It’s not uncommon for folks to stop band members and ask to take pictures with them when they play at spots around the stadium before a home game.
Here’s an example of their game day schedule this weekend for the Arkansas home game:

My wife and I have been trying to get our daughter to get involved in some type of band organization. How hard is it to get accepted into the marching band? Our daughter is a very good on the saxophone. Their high school jazz band won many awards, but she doesn’t think she’d be good enough to play in college. (I spoke with our band director and he feels otherwise) Has your daughter been OK with the amount of time involved? Does she play in any other bands at Auburn?

My daughter is not a music major, she is currently in the College of Science and Math. She did particpate in marching band at high school for 4 years. For marching band, she participated in the Pre-Season Camp in which she was selected for the marching band. If I remember correctly she told me about 400 kids tried out for about 380 spots. For the Fall semester after school starts, marching band involves about 1.5 hours/day Tuesday through Friday. Another kid from her high school who was in marching at her high school chose to partipate in jazz band not marching band at Auburn.
Feel free to send any private messages regarding band. I will tell you as much as I know.

Just a thank you for the time and dedication of those involved in the AU Marching Band! Everyone loves the marching band and appreciates the extra excitement they bring to the games. Our child’s CWE is in the marching band and is top notch! Made our child so excited to begin school.
