Since many of us are dealing with the frustrations of being put on the "waitlist."

To accepted students:
For how many of you accepted applicants is Georgetown your first choice?
well realistically contigent upon getting into your other schools of choice...

To waitlisted students:
How many of you will decline staying on the list?

And general questions:
How many students have to reject admission before the University can revert to the waitlist?

How many people are on a wait list on average?

Georgetown is fairly conservative in admissions -- they usually underadmit on purpose then turn to the wait list I believe (correct me if I'm wrong.) It is one of the few top schools that actually USE the list.

Yeah, if you go back and look at the old forums, then you will see that a lot of CC kids were waitlisted, and also that many were taken off the waitlist.

that would be exactly what I would want to hear being one of those placed on the list, yet I recieved a handout along with my letter that said that last year (2004) Georgetown did not accept one student from the waitlist.

Where did the 130 off the list number come from? Is that for 2003?

Yeah 2003 they admitted a lot and 2004 none. But I'm curious how that differs between schools, because obviously if someone accepted from college doesnt go that opens up a space for the college, not for an sfs or msb student....

from what I saw in the letter, that is exactly how it would work- openining in the college is created by someone's decline to go to the college. It's not interchangeable between schools. And also, the precentage of students taken is much greater for SFS and MSB than for the college.

2003 waitlist statistics:

College: .08 accepted from waitlist
SFS: .14 accepted from waitlist
MSB: .22 accepted from waitlist

i was accepted to College with no aid....that 46000 price tag will open up another spot on the waitlist as i am almost certain i will not attend...however...on fastweb.com there is all these scholarships in reference to GU that require no additional application...anybody know anything about these...there is no info on the site?

I'm not staying on the list. I have other schools and large offers of financial aid, which I would surely not receive if accepted off the wait list.

well gtown got a little over 15000 applications for 1500 spaces in the class of 2009. i'd expect their acceptance rate to be about 20%, maybe a smidge higher so they probably admitted about 3000 applicants or a little more. so you have to expect more than 1500 people or so to decline admission until the waitlist kicks in. many schools can go a couple of years without even using the waitlist. so stay positive and maybe send some recents news/accomplishments/accolades/report cards but don't expect much. i'd be interested to see if anyone has any insight as to how large college waiting lists are, because they seem pretty big. i havn't been able to find such a statistic. waiting lists at colleges seem more a gesture to acknowledge your qualifications than a reality, to be honest. in any event, good luck to all the waitlisters out there.

my efc is around 56000...but that is completely bogus....my parents have so many other respsonbiliies like familes over seas and haven't saved very much and basically have no assets...my mom works like 65hrs wk and my dad works like 70 so we have high income on paper....it really sux...but neways...does anybody nknow anything about these private schoarlships that gtown offers?
