The Great Gatsby is amazing. and the American Dream is the greatest essay topic ever hah.
Their Eyes Were Watching God is really boring, I hated it.
The Awakening is okay. It’s pretty good for essay writing.
I haven’t read Beloved, but I read Sula by Toni Morrison and that was really good, so it can’t be too terrible.
The Stranger is definitely a bit weird, but I loved it. a lot of people don’t though.

The Stranger and Gatsby were definitely my favorites out of these.

Gatsby and Hamlet are practically dying to be read for an AP Literature class. I’d also recommend Beloved (we read this for IB English). It’s a difficult read at first, but I think Morrison does a wonderful job at writing literature. It’s moving, and there are so many symbols and other literary elements that would help you brush up on concepts before the AP Exam.

Just read ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ :)

Um, other than that. Heart of Darkness is amazing. The Great Gatsby is good. Hamlet is good. Catch-22 is good. Wuthering Heights is great - it’s SUPPOSED to be confusing in the beginning, what with the Catherines and everything, so get over it. The Kite Runner is good, though that should just be read for fun (imo, but all of these books were fun for me), not specifically for the class. The Stranger is very good, if you can think.

haha Heart of Darkness, count the number of times he says “brooding gloom” lol. so many

and I just love the little tidbits, the kind that only lit teachers know, or that you’re just thrilled when you recognize them, like “in the august light of abiding memories”
august=imperial and the word stems from caesar augustus, and he was talking about the roman empire, and blah blah blah and you’re just like…when he was writing this did he just sit there and be like “okay i wonder what word i should use here”
my teacher said no he was just so good that it worked out that way
and the dominoes, made from bones=death as a game, right from the beginning, and okay sorry for the long randomness but i just love how great this book is :)

^i love you for that post. hahaha.
