I'm making Fall and Thanksgiving break reservations for my daughter, who is a freshman. Can anyone tell me what taxi or limo service they recommend for getting to the airport? She'll probably be flying out of Richmond.

When my oldest daughter was a student, I think we used Groome (Broome?) Limo or something, but I can't find them listed online or in the Parents Handbook. I'm curious about the fare to Richmond - I seem to remember that it was $50 one way six or seven years ago, and took around an hour. Anyone know what the fare is today? Thanks if you get a moment to respond.

For Thanksgiving and Spring Break, I usually use the Student Assembly's airport ride service. I assume they will have it again this year. Basically they shuttle people to and from the various airports at set times, so one of the times would have to work for your daughter. Sometimes this means you will have to wait at the airport a little longer than usual, but it is free.

For Richmond, I use Groome, which is fairly inexpensive. Here are the prices: [url=http://www.groometransportation.com/richmond_fares.htm]<<< Groome Transportation >>>/url

The best thing to do is partner up with someone else, as your fare drops if you do so. Going back from Richmond Airport is really easy; there is a shuttle that leaves every hour back to campus, so you don't even need a reservation.

Thanks so much! This is very helpful.

I usually fly out of DC instead of Richmond because there are far more flight options (and it's usually cheaper). You can take the Amtrak to Alexandria and then take the Metro... Reagan is a stop on the Blue and Yellow lines. The Student Assembly thing is pretty handy too, though it's usually pretty crowded and sometimes runs behind schedule... that said, it's free.
