I have a few questions. Hopefully you guys can help me out. Thanks in advance.

What is the Stern atmosphere like?

I've heard about the "Stern Curve"; how hard are classes?

Do most people live in dorms? And how far are the dorms from Stern?

What do you guys like about it?

What do you guys dislike about it?

What's the night life like?

Do you guys go out at night often?

I've heard that NYU lacks a sense of community. What is your opinion on this?

I'm a current student at McCombs School of Business; is it be easier for a current business student to transfer in general?

Lastly, if you transferred into Stern, what were your stats (high school and college) and when did you apply (freshman year, sophomore year, etc)?

Happy thanksgiving everyone. Have a great one.

hah dang...sorry wish i could help, i kinda want to see what other people would say to this too, i'm thinking of applying for a transfer to stern as well, but ah well...we'll see hah

I'm an NYU student, not in Stern, but I think I can answer a question or 2...

Do most people live in dorms? And how far are the dorms from Stern?
The main Stern building is located right on campus around Washington Sq, by the library, student center, and all the other NYU buildings. How far you are depends on where you dorm. I've heard that freshman year, almost 97% of students live in dorms, but after that, it decreases by a lot. The freshman dorms are closest to campus, with the closest ones being Goddard/Hayden. Weinstein, Rubin, and Brittany are all pretty close too - if you live in Goddard, the Stern building is across the street, like a 3 min walk! But I'm not sure if upperclassmen can dorm here. As you reach senior year, the dorms will get farther!

I've heard that NYU lacks a sense of community. What is your opinion on this?
Well, it's a huge school, but you can find community here if you want. The best way to find community is join a sports team, club, or frat/sorority. Everyone pretty much has a group of friends by the soph yr, and that's who you hang out with. As a transfer, it'll be harder for you, but it's not really hard to make friends. You can find your own little community at NYU if you want, but we're not really the RAH RAH school spirit type.

I'm a current student at McCombs School of Business; is it be easier for a current business student to transfer in general?
I don't know about this. Transferring to Stern is hard, and you'll need a compelling reason, and if you're in a business school already, that makes your reason less compelling, because you're already getting a good business education - on the other hand, it shows passion for your study and you'll already have transferable credits...so I'm not sure about this. I wouldn't count on it being easier.

if you're in the UT B school then I dont really see much marginal benefit transferring to Stern. If you want to get into finance, then Stern can be considered a 'target' but only because it's in NYC. Stay at UT and do well. Get into the BHP program.

I see your point, and I've heard your perspective many times. The situation is more complicated and personal. I love New York and the opportunities it provides for finance grads are invaluable. McCombs simply does not compare.
