For internationals who did not apply for financial aid

I got a question.

For international regular decision applicants who did not apply for financial aid, did you get a email form the admission office weeks ago saying:

"Dear XXX,

Thank you for your application to Stanford University. In your application you indicated that you do not intend to apply for need-based financial aid. This means that you, as neither a citizen nor a permanent resident of the United States, acknowledge the following:
1.You have sufficient funding to finance the entirety of your undergraduate education at Stanford University.

2.If you are admitted, you cannot apply for need-based financial aid at that time or at any time during your undergraduate career.

If there is a possibility that you may need financial aid at any time during your undergraduate career, send us an email immediately so that we can change the status of your application and consider you for financial aid......................"

I am an international student who got this email because I did not apply for financial aid. For other internationals who also did not apply for financial aid, have you also received this email? Thank you!

Yup, Its normal. I received mine last week.
I guess it hints that they have read our application around that time.

I applied REA, and everyone who was an international and who didn’t apply for aid got that letter.
It’s Stanford’s disclaimer of sorts :)

I see…because my cousin who applied to Stanford last year did not get a similar email (didn’t apply for financial aid also), so I was just wondering what the email means.

It doesn’t ‘mean’ anything.

They’re just informing you that if you don’t apply for aid, you’ll never be able to get any sort of aid from stanford for all of your undergrad career.
It’s a disclaimer. Nothing more.

If you need aid, apply for it. If you don’t, don’t apply for aid. It’s that simple.
