Wow. I was totally going to go serious for my essay.

lol no no please do! people have, just i doubt joker's and finale's somewhat =) all the previous ones were true. don't worry haha.

my topic will most likely be: one of the most memorable events, and probably the climax that brought me to another level in my fervent passion for volunteer history.

I am thinking about talking about a serious subject but adding humor to it. That is probably the best way to show the sides of me.

ahh.. what topic was it though? um, or more generally, did it involve overcoming a personal problem, or a philosophical question? societal problem?

i turned in my UChicago one about "Mind that Does Not Stick", as well as how I've been motivated throughout my high school career through my grandfather and my political activities. I also wrote about my self-perceived weaknesses.

Do you think it would be inappropriate to write about political controversies and what the media is not telling us? Just a thought.

I've always thought of the essay as your personal statement to the university. It's only a few words, wouldn't it be better to let them get a better idea of who you are and how you think?

political controversies and what the media is not telling us

Does this tell the admissions committee who you are as a person? Would your friends and family read it and say, "Only Trixee15 could have written this piece"?

=O that's a great question to ask yourself when writing a college essay!

=) thanx both of you! divanny and hanna to the rescue xP

true...very true. I have such a hard time write about myself and who I am. I know it sounds weird but aren't the hardships of teenage years about finding out who you are? What if you haven't found that out yet?

it doesn't matter if you have really found out "who you are" in the sense that you know what your personality is like etc. but just talking about something that you enjoy or perhaps something that really made in difference in establishing your unestablished idea.

however, if what you're saying is that you really have nothing to write about =p then you're in trouble buddy. for me, the opposite problem occurred, i had SOOOO many things i wished to write about that really made me whoever i am today that i just couldn't decide. finding the right topic out of all of my topics was the hardest part!

good luck though trixee =]

I recently went on a mission trip to new orleans, and I was thinking about sharing the impact it has had on my life. I am also doing a civil engineering project on liquefaction that is related to mitigating the effects of natural disasters so I thought I would tie that in too.

lol did you really? ... ??

=) if you really did, that's totally awesome!!!!

well i get an idea of what i want to write about, and i get set on it.....and then i get cold feet!!! I've changed my topic at least 5 times already

lol, yes I really did, I mean is nothing compared to refridgerator magnet conversations but hopefully it will do.

lol it's a great essay topic! =) that experience must have been great in itself.

trixee - well what i did was, i wrote everything out first, as twochickens once told (a member of CC) me to. just write every topic you want to first, then choose later!

would this be good topic: my passion and how it is a metaphor for my major?

it could be a really good topic, and indeed one of the acceptees for entrance this year wrote something similar (hotpiece101 wrote about overcoming "hurdles" in her life and that became the metaphor of her reach for success - though she has already succeeded now! =) )

however, i don't see how passion can be a metaphor for your major, it should be the root? but i don't know how you're going to go about this so. anyway, it Could be a good topic. but remember, the essay should be about You as a Person, not always a student (unless that's what you want to talk about). you should leave the adcoms with the feeling that they really know who you are. your essay should reflect what grades and your list of EC's can't/didn't. (though you Could expound upon what your EC, which many times is one's passion, is).

i'm pretty sure that naturally it will include my personality

if you're pretty sure then you should be pretty sure enough to write it =D
