for SENIORS who are ready to get onto the PERILOUS ROAD.

Ah, I am not so excited. I feel like such a pessimist. Hopefully everything goes my way!

Wish life was that easy!

how do teacher recommedations from teachers work? do we ask them to write it and then we send it or do they send it to where tell them to? If they send the recommendation do they have to make copies of it or do we ask different teachers for different schools? Man senior year is gonna be complicated

Hey guys,

All the college books I have read have recommended attaching an activity sheet in addition to the short list of extracurrculars on the common application. However, if I'm submitting online, then I can't really attach extra stuff. Should I not submit online and just mail it instead?

Thanks!

well when i asked my teacher to do mine for stanford...he interviewed me and then he wrote it and then sent it in himself....but stanford provides the mailing labels and rec forms so yea
and also, they were to be mailed in 9x11 envelopes with no stapled pages and all...but thats only for stanford

as for other schools, he wrote the letter and then sealed it in an envelope and signed the back between the flap and the body of the envelop as to show that the student hasnt opened or seen the rec he wrote

An activity list would be a great idea to show your indepth involvement in a few areas of interest. You can still use the common app online at the same time, but send the activity list through mail (or you can add it in the "additional info" section if there's enough space).

Teacher recs for common apps are all the same. You'll need two different academic subject teachers.
1. Print the rec forms out and give one copy to each of the two teachers you've selected.
2. It's also your responsibility to provide them with envelopes, with stamps and the address of schools you are applying.
3. Give your teachers a list of schools you are planning to apply.
4. After they've finished filling out the rec form, they'll have to photocopy (or hand copy if they really like you) and only have to change the name of the school on each form.
5. Make sure you tell them when these are due, so they send all of them of sealed in your provided envelopes well before the dead line (November 1, or January 1)

feel free to add anything I've missed.

Okay, I've a pretty practical question here about asking for recs:

How do I approach my senior year teachers and ask them to write me a few college recs, even though many senior year teachers have only taught/known you for like 2 months in their entire life? (how can you let them know you in such a short time?)

Yeah I was thinking today about the extra material that we can send with our apps. What do you guys think about sending a few pictures ( 5 or 6 tops) of me doing different activities that I list as my ECs? I thought maybe this way they can actually get an idea of what I do etc.

jIMMY@K, go right up to your teachers at the beginning of the year and tell them that you are considering using them for college recs. Informing them is the courteous thing to do, don't surprise them. Also, make sure to be visible in their classes. Give them something to write about ,basically. Don't put them in an awkward position. You can definitely get to know people in 2 months...make a good first impression.

yeah is it a good idea to send an activity sheet?

Once again, an activity is list is often welcomed by admissions officials (except for those at columbia and stanford, who strictly forbid extraneous materials). You send these things all through mail at early date before the deadline (and you can still use the online common app to submit your main application).

jimbob1225, thanks for the advice.

about the senior teacher recs...some schools actually require the person to have known you for one+ year...so its best to find a teacher whom you've had previously
i asked my math teacher to write mine since i had him for jr yr pre-cal
and sr yr ap calc bc

I already asked my 9th, 11th, and 12th grade English teacher, and for my second rec, I'm going to ask my 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade chemistry teacher. I'd say they know me pretty well by now. :p

So you mail in your activity list BEFORE you submit your application online? Wouldn't they not have a file for you though?

well obviously mailing something would take a MUCH longer time than online submission

Does anyone know anything about brown? how is its political science/international relations programs?

God Bless Italy. Goooooooooooooooo Italy!

Sorry Jimmy@killarney, I can't really help you out with information about the political science program at Brown, but based on what I have read from the website, it seems to be a good program.

On certain applications, the schools only have six blanks for filling out class schedules, at my school we are required to take seven classes, what am I supposed to do? I consider all of my classes to be important, so I can't really leave one out...has anyone run into this problem, yet?

"God bless italy"?

I officially hate you now. ;)

^hahaha. I hate the italian team. I wish germany would've won, or any team for that matter, except italy.
