For the last time, B's are not bad!!!!

ya know whats a B-ach? 89's...my calc teacher gave me 2 89's last year! both frickin semesters! ...at least it was a hard class

Lol I get 89's VERY frequently =)

Yeah, I agree with them not being that bad.

My GPA when accepted to Tufts ED I last month: 3.477UW/4.02W, so, obviously, there are more "B's" than "A's" on my transcript, and I got a "C" in PreCalculus Junior year for a whole semester, but that's my only "semester" "C" that colleges saw, heh.

Bleh, try this. I had a 93 average in English 1st semester. Second semester, my teacher suddenly hated me because I was honest and didn't suck up (I said I disliked The Awakening and So Long a Letter for obvious reasons. IM A GUY). So my average went to an 83, but I still could exempt, or so I thought. She says I can, but the day of the final she changes her damn stupid mind and I have to take it. Luckily enough, it was a single essay question and I knew The Stranger from front to back, and Existentialism. I wrote, in my eyes, an excellent essay about the similarities of relationships (i.e. love hate deal) and she gave me a 60. I would've been fine had she shown it to me, said why, and been reasonable, but SHE REFUSED TO LET ME SEE THE EXAM.

Damn wench. Dropped my average to a 77, but whatever =P

b grades haunt me at night and keep me up.

oh shiza thats actually d's sorry guys i must have read the title of this wrong.....

i'll go bald if i get Bs for the major subjects for 2 straight quarters. i don't worry much about the minor subjects, mainly because i don't exactly 'like' the teacher (stupid reason, i know)

ahh....finally at CC I met some guys who wouldnt satisfy themselves with B....I am surrounded with ppl who keep on dreaming of a B or B-.....
As for me,....a B is good in subjects where getting A is impossible like: English and FOreign Language......as for the rest.....nothing below A!!!!!!
Cheez... I cant believe how u guys get A in language.......it must be because of the grading system in my school, techers say "No one can get full marks bcoz there is always the possibility in language that another essay or answer can beat your essay or answer, and giving an A implies that yours is the best, which aint possible.....and so the highest grade is B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
that teacher should come to CC and discover people who get As in language subjects as well!!!

I agree. I think a lot of Americans schools grade really easily. I remember how easy an A was to get. Its really hard to get a top grade at my school in a lot of the classes, it takes a lot of work. And it actually means something.

I honestly think that GPA can be very subjective. I'm not saying this because I have a bad GPA, mine is decent, but just because of the experiences and fluctuations that I have had. I've taken a language for three years, and the first year I was in a tough honors class and came away with I think an 83. The next year I was in a regular class, but the teacher was crazy and we didn't really do anything and I did decently on basically everything, and she gave me 100. Last year I was still in a regular class but it was a real class and I did ok and I got an 89. Then last year APUSH, first semester he gave me a 97, then he decided second semester that I wasn't a good student even though I actually did better on those tests, and he gave me a final grade of 92. So really with all the experiences I have had, with harder teachers different years - harder classes, harder tests, and with teacher mood swings, I truly believe that GPA can be subjective - to a certain degree anyway. Obviously someone with a 4.0 doesn't deserve a 3.0 and vice versa, but I would say at least a .5 rage could be subjective.

not true. If you get a sucky grade, it's your own damn fault. Accept it. Sure, the teacher may play favorites and not call on you in class or something, but GPA's are not very subjective. In fact, they're pretty much by the numbers, imo.

LOL tell that to my theory of knowledge teacher. Sure, we have a number based grade (you know, tests, hw, etc). BUT this number based grade is only a PORTION of your total grade in the class. The total grade is also based upon class participation (which is normal in most classes, but in this class, HE chooses who gets to talk), "TEACHABLE ATTITUDE" (biggest horsecrap I've heard) and how promptly you turn in hw. ...
In other words.
It gives him an excuse to raise the grade of the kids he likes and do nothing about/lower the grade of kids he don't.

Good thing he likes me, that pervy pedophile.

But anyways. Except for that horsecrap class and calculus which somehow magically comes to me without studying, I have to work really really really hard, to the point when I sweat blood, have stress-faints, etc.

One can be a "B" student and still have decent chances to get into most tier 2 colleges.

........

That was actually the most discouraging thing you could've said to me, Northstarmom.

usually has more B's than A's

Proof that Bs are not the devil:
My Total HS grades:
16.5 A's
4.5 B's
1 C
Accepted to: UNC-CH, UT-Austin Plan II, and UGA
Other things (besides grades) matter too.

syneria,
What was discouraging about what I said? If you have more Bs than As, you clearly have a "B" average and probably have decent chances of getting into most of the colleges in the country except for the tier one colleges -- Harvard, Notre Dame, top state universities like University of Virginia and University of Wisconsin.

You'd still have decent shots at places like Michigan State, Florida State, American University, Syracuse, Temple University, and hundreds of other colleges.

heheh so i've gotten A's,B's, and C's with a great GPA but my passion makes up for it ; P besides dad would be soo proud of me if i've gotten a B in calculus

lies, all lies....B's are always bad.

I have the perfect line for this situation:

"that's exactly the attitude we're trying to fight" -Pancake from "The Ladykillers"

but let me say this, they aren't exactly good either. not bad doesn't equal good btw.

haha there's a girl at my school who practically cries over an A-. i honestly think she would die of misery if she ever got a B

Squiggle88 isn't it u? ;)
