For the last time, B's are not bad!!!!

i got a few B's, sure im disappointed, but not because of the B itself, its more of the fact that I was capable of getting the A, but I just got lazy. I guess it all comes down to how lazy you are.

^ Me too...

I've gotten 3 B's in my high school career... a 92 in honors earth science, a 90 in honors geometry and a 92 in honors spanish 3 (still the highest grade by far)...these would be A's in most schools, but the 92's **** me off because they were both like 92.4s, the 90 I was fine with because i failed one of the geometry tests big time. (blasted proofs!)

To this person: Wow, that system does suck

"mm....i am international..
no Bs or As for us.....its a straight score out of 100 and in our system 75 and above is an A...
70-75 is a B+.. and 65-70 is a B...this implies most of the "GOOD STUDENTS" in my school score somewhere like a B+ and a B. ONly a few exceptional ones..graduate with an average of A.
But then again.........I got 95 in my mathematics...so that would mean
A+++.........lol........our grading system sucks!!!!!! the people who score our tests suck even more!!!!!! sometimes they give everyone over 80 and sometimes no one scores abve 70.....in the end, it is we who suffer miserably!!!"

when you guys talk about A's and B's in your high school career, are you mainly talking about the culmative final grades for the whole year,or are you also taking account of the semester or trimester grades in the middle of the year? because I am a straight A student before senior year in terms of final year grades, but i had a couple B+'s in my fall terms. So do colleges care about them very much?

Oh yeah, they totally put your application in the reject pile when they see B+'s fall terms, but an A overall. Sigh, you just wanted to ask a question.

Yeah, he's right. You're totally finished now. You're out to hang and dry. You can't go to college anymore. You might as well call up Walgreens and see if they have a spot for you at the register there. In fact, just drop out of high school right now and get a job there. I mean, these couple of B+'s instead of straight A's is really going to keep you out of every single one of America's 3000+ colleges and universities, right?

RBase07 is so right, except for the playful sarcasm, replace that with the cold, hurtful truth and he's on the money.

imiracle911- no, it's not. i personally like A-'s and i couldn't care less if i got a B

my school grades in numbers. what's the equivalent of A,B,C,D, anyway? it kinda confuses me.

the reason some people freak about Bs on this site is because they see the stats of all these perfect people (4.0 2400s) who still get rejected from hypsm, and they start freaking out about their own chances, saying "oh wow, if he/she didn't get in i have no shot"

the important thing to realize about stats is that they are used to assess two things, whether or not you worked hard in high school, and if you will be able to graduate from college. if your stats get you past these things, its all about the other parts of the app

yep.... juzam.. is so right

If u have a 4.0 and 2400 but are an idiot who studies for 24.25 hours in a day and get rejected, its not surprising.

Every person has their advantages. If u dont have as good a GPA, im sure u will be better in summat else. A good SAt and few B's or even many B's with kickass EC's will surely hold more than one beautiful SAT score and a nice set of A's...

"perfect people (4.0 2400s) who still get rejected from hypsm"
Many of these "perfect" people have one thing clear. Their application has big letters printed across it saying "I have no life" or "Be the book"..

Well rounded is far better than everest on one end and the Mariana trench on the other.

I'm with RBase07 on this one. Some B's are not the end of the world. I remember a couple years ago I used to care so much about grades. What a waste. As long as you learn what the class has to offer a B is fine and shows that you're taking classes that challenge you, which is great.

my school gives us number grades...but they have a Converter...im glad if i get a B man i got a C+ in spanish this quater(but here this a 95 on the midterm i was liek am i reading this right?) im happy! seriously my parents know i work hard but i got a 2.8-2.9-ish gpa..last year..b/c i was at a different school and i basically failed math(but im a sped and they like me they passed me the schools wolnt see my grades they will see my quater grade) averages the last 2 quaters went way up i got liek a 84-85 this past quater and a 90 the quater b4 im obviously not going to say harvard but i think i will get into some college(and not liek my class mates hopefully tho!)

so then, few B's is really bad for top tier schools

Don't expect Bs to help you.

let me also make an update to this thread as well...

B's are not bad because:

1) I was accepted to U. Pittsburgh

and

2) I was accepted to Howard U.

AND

3) I was accepted to Morehouse College.

AND

4) I was accepted to the University of Maryland at College Park
with only ONE A on my transcript for all of high school. The rest were B's and C's. I had POOR SAT scores, btw. So I know what got me in were my awesome teacher recs, essays, and EC's. I say this not to brag about where I got in, but to make a point about grades (B's, specifically). Grades are important, but not to the point where you begin to lack a social life.

aha! what about, like, striaght 89s out of curiosity?

Actually it's the opposite. Social life is important, but not to the point where you begin to get a B.

Social lives must be sacrificed and crucified on the cross of perfect grades!! HEIL PERFECT TRANSCRIPT!
