for those in Rutgers

What do u like and dislike about Rutgers (New Brunswick)? reviews would greatly be appreciated...why you went there, do u wish u could transfer, type of students, etc.

I liked Rutgers after I went on one of those admission tours in the beginning of my senior year. I don’t know what it was. It just felt right. Not to mention the price tag and the fact the English department was top (along with other academic programs).

CLUBS: They have a lot of clubs an activities here on campus. You have to join a club or two to enjoy your time here. You can’t spend the next 4 years just studying. The programming council here (R.U.P.A.) hosts many programs like game nights, student cultural dance performances, workshops, and concerts (Lupe Fiasco came my freshman year; this year we had Jack’s Mannequin and Minus the Bear), and of course there is Rutgersfest (which I have yet to go to)

FOOD: The food is pretty good, with the exception of Brower (College Avenue) and Tillett (Livingston). That’s my opinion and I know there are others that share my sentiment. Busch and Cook/Douglass have good dining hall food. You have takeout options throughout the day on the weekdays. It’s helpful when you are running late to class and need like a breakfast sandwich to eat while on the bus.

Classes: I’ve had some pretty cool classes and teachers. I’ve had some pretty terrible classes and teachers. And then there are the classes and teachers that fall in between. But overall, I had good classes/teachers. I know people say that when you get to college, take a class on a whim if it sounds interesting. My advice is to do this with caution. It seems like the classes I take on a whim “because it sounded interesting” are the same ones that screwed up my GPA.

I wanted to transfer during the middle of the semester. It was partly because I felt like maybe I wasn’t cut out to be at a school with 40,000 undergraduates and graduates. It got a bit overwhelming, but I was also having a bad semester with switching to another dorm, my grades, so I fell into a bit of a depression. I’ve gotten better now, but now that I have two finals and can’t go home until Wednesday, I’m feeling like crap again. I think the major dislike that I have is that at times you do feel a bit lonely here. Maybe it’s because I don’t have like a HUGE amount of friends. =</p>

I also dislike when dealing with administrative conflicts, which we call the R.U. screw. Like getting charged an extra 1,000 bucks on your tuition. Trying to tell housing to come fix something in your room but 5 weeks have passed by and they have yet to visit your dorm room. I think most schools have this problem.

There are many types of students here. You have the diligent students, the slackers, the bros, the artsy students into music and theater, the athletes, guidos and guidettes, the frats boys, loners, long boarders, the vegan kids, the weird kids who never say a word in class, the fashionistas, the hipsters, the promiscuous students, the partiers, international students (a lot of Asians), plain Janes, metal heads, and mysterious guys. I could go on. It’s just so many different personalities here. Which I think makes the school a bit awesome, in my opinion.
