For those of us still waiting...

I think the most important question is: has anyone received a deferred/deny yet? I haven't heard of anyone.

What I think, given same priority/day of shipping: Since parcel mail is sorted out by hand (the acceptance packages), it would take longer for those to get out to the right people. However, this has not been the case. After talking with a local postman, I learned that some 70 trucks around the Boston area had to be towed on Friday. I'm assuming that the deferrel letters could have been in one of the trucks that had to be towed while the accepts were somewhere else. Better, if the accepts were divided up into many many trucks, but to my town (Lexington, MA) I'm guessing they were all in the same truck.

But maybe this is some info for those who are still worried?

I was wondering about the deferral thing myself. I haven't seen/heard of anyone receiving a deferral yet either.

Maybe the people who got deferred/denied don't want to talk about it?

While this confounding variable certainly has merit, my own polling from school found that 7/9 people didn't get anything from MIT and the two that did got in. Not a very large sample, but still enough to strike fear into my heart (excuse the cheese).

And also, when asked, no acceptees know of defer/denies. If you live further away from MIT, then life is still hanging in the balance, but for those of us in New England...well...may the Force be with us.

Again, the admiral ackbar quote applies.

hmm is jersey in New England? shimmer of hope... remembers stats hope shatters

i'm just praying. i hate not being as brilliant as anyone else. i just wanna get in. i don't think i can stand waiting!

i understand you man.

im getting tired of waiting.

I'm really scared to recognize that there is significant evidence the tubes travel faster than the mail. and I live outside of Philly..... which is much closer to Mass. than Florida.

yea... im guessing that us late people are getting a small envelope

=[

What about Ohio? Too far away for this theory to apply???
ahhhhhh

Namkin? Aren't you in California. Wait till tomorrow b4 you get emo.

im still waiting too...im in kentucky and usps said 3 days...so im guessing thatd be saturday, monday, and tomorrow...so hopefully my decision will come tmrw...

i've been emo for the last couple of weeks...

my mailbox is small so it wont fit. if i dont get a notice from usps telling me to pick something up, then i know i didnt get in... =[

Well, we have to keep in mind that the majority of accepted students who have posted their decisions are NOT from the EA roster. I'd guess something near a 30-40% acceptance rate among these applicants. Since we've only seen the decision of one student who is actually on the roster, we can't safely assume that acceptance notices are faster. I think new accepted students are just joining the forum to post their decisions. The deferred and rejected probably wouldn't join CC to post their rejection or deferral. As a result, we're seeing lots of new posters who were accepted. I'd wait till tomorrow before panicking.

HAHAHA My bro is watching me freak over here on CC and talking about where the tubes have arrived and where they haven't and he's like "soooo, has uh, anyone killed themselves over this MIT thing yet?"

Last night I was wondering if anybody has ever died while rushing home to check the 'box for college decisions... that would suck.

My Caltech letter has beaten the MIT one to my house. And I live in NY. I don't know anyone in my area who has received anything.

"Last night I was wondering if anybody has ever died while rushing home to check the 'box for college decisions... that would suck."

If they got accepted.

Haha that was coldhearted of me, yeah we definately don't want anyone dying. And roads here are so bad bc of snow; good thing I live so close to school that's it's almost immoral for me to drive home. :)

long distances = mail by planes. short = truck

i hope i get it tommorow
