How long have you been playing saxophone and how much time do you practice on average per day?

8 years

I don't practice during the day at home anymore; Only during school in class; but I'm really really good.

Eight years as well. I don't practice at home either, just twice a week during jazz band. I'm really really average.

7 years, and I never really practiced very much at home.

If you're just learning, here's another story. Someone I know switched from saxophone to French horn, and he never really practiced at home. Now he can play just fine. On a saxophone, once you learn how to make sound come out and what the fingerings are, you're all set.

I use to play sax since the 5th grade, but I quit cause our school's band wasn't competitive enough. Now i practice for fun at home.

But when I played, I practiced on average 2 hours a day, 3 hrs on weekends/friday.

...How do you saxophone people play such a loud instrument without your ears hurting?

Just curious.

it doesn't seem that loud to me. my parents made me quit band this year tho.. otherwise i would have been in it for 6 years.

Saxophones are nothing, in terms of loudness. You can only play so loud with a reed instrument, or at least an alto.

Try a trumpet blast, or a full ensemble of marching drums.

I used to play trumpet, and I never practiced at home because it was so incredibly loud and everyone within 50 meters heard my every mistake ><

Oh. maybe I was getting it confused with some other brass instrument then.

i used to be really good at saxophone, but i quit going into 7th grade because i was the only girl... sigh darn gender roles and how influenceable i was

From my experience in band, I think saxophones are pretty high up there, at least louder than clarinets/flutes/trombones/tubas/baritones.

Trumpets still win though.

Violas lose. : (

mj93: I was the only girl saxophone player in my school band until this year so I understand what you mean.

As to the purpose of this thread I've been playing for 7 years and have never practiced at home although my director/teachers think I do because I'm so good.
