Forced Grade Distribution

I think that I read somewhere that academic grades are distributed across the board amongst cadets in each class. How does this work? Are there a # of A's,B's,C's,D's and F's distributed for each test taken by cadets?

According to my second year cadet son, there are no forced distribution of grades in the USMA academic classes. There are, however, forced distribution of the military grade the cadets receives each semester (cadets receive 3 grades each period - academic, military, physical). No more than 15% can get A's, no more than 35% B's and no less than 50% receive C's. He said this forced distribution practice is suppose to end after this current semester.

Thanks Aspen-you,Ann, Shogun, Momoftwins and others have been of invaluable help-that makes more sense. I'm glad they are doing away with this practise-it can certainly add to animosity among classmates when they should be helping each other succeed.
