has anyone else been disappointed in the lack of communication to new students

for instance, just TODAY we here about the Fordham Plunge program, after buying our airline tickets- my D would have applied and still may and weill will suck up the plane flight if she get it, but arggh

lol....yep...same for my D! The Urban Plunge stuff came last week, then an email they extended the deadline to apply by a week. But its not going to work for us, due to schedule issues, travel time etc. Sounds like fun and a great way to learn about the NYC boroughs and neighborhoods and do something positive for less fortunate people.

Some schools, we are learning have a lengthy orientation or early move in date to dorms. Different schools do different things, I guess. But to me, moving in too early is problematic, if they dont get busy right away.....the devil's advocate is an idle mind as they see....partying sets in, bad behavior etc....

We are already shocked at hearing stories (anecdotally) about kids in our community, many of whom got into prestigious schools, blowing their summer and risking their lives and liberty by getting into trouble this summer.....and its very sad.

We are taking family vacation and my D is working (a real good experience for her so far....good reality check, plus saving money).

But she is getting VERY excited about school and just being at Fordham!

My daughter found out about Urban Plunge through facebook and called to request an application 3 weeks ago, because she was going to be away and didn't want to miss the opportunity. They faxed her the app, she completed and mailed it back.
We're in Florida and need to make travel arrangements, and we're going on vacation for 2 weeks beginning Monday. I asked D to call and find out if she's been selected. She was told that they are not ready to release that information; when D explained about travel, they said the earliest that that might be able to let her know is Monday. Now, D is furious with me for making her call and getting the person upset with her.
I can't book flights if I don't know when she has to be there! The school needs to realize that we need some lead time to make plans.
Sorry, I just needed to vent. I thought it would be LESS stressful when she decided on a school!

i spoke to a nice guy in the orientation department about jsut this issue

and he said he agreed, that they need to really work n getting information out

what he said was that in past years, most of the students came from the northeast, easy drives, but now more and more students are coming from places that require airtravel, reservations, etc and they are used to the old schedule for things which in the past was adequate, but not anymore

So I am sending in a nice letter with some suggestions as to how to improve things

such as, on the website, when it takes about "save the dates" including dates for other things, like Urban Plunge

and if you can send an email en-masse to extend the deadline, you can for sure send an email early to all just saying go to this link if interested

and then make the approval process earlier

my D was interested but we all ready made her flight reservations and hotel etc from SF, and she didn't want us to have to change everything
