For all of you that got deferred/rejected from a college, life is like a sine curve. Things always get better after the trough

I’m so nervous…

@Fiona1997 We all are, but you’ll be fine, count the hours lmao

As to the rest of you, I wish you all the best of luck! And remember, even if you’re deferred, there’s still a good chance you’ll get in, though the rest of you, as well as myself, would love to get in ASAP xD, regardless, have a good rest of the night

If you recieve merit aid, is it mentioned in the acceptance letter?

@jgalls yes, our Fordham rep said it would be in with admission information.

@MidwestMomTo2 Sorry to bug you about this more, but I just wanted to clarify… when you say merit aid will be included with admission information, does that mean it will be available online, or will we have to wait for the physical package?

@anothermuggle when I asked when my D would find out if she got a merit award (which she’s hoping for), the admission rep said it would be when we got official word around Dec 20. I assume it will be available online. I know the Northeasten (and many other EA) acceptances, tell you merit awards and even a tentative financial aid offer online if you filed the CSS by the deadline.

I asked him a couple weeks ago because my D got an email saying she would be admitted (the much discussed “likely letter.”) When I did the NPC, Fordham gapped us on financial aid. My D loves the school but we won’t be taking out Parent Plus loans to make it happen! We shall see. :expressionless:

The merit aid should be stated on the letter, like all other colleges do. The FA package comes about a week or two later.

I’m going to be blunt and say Fordham is not good with financial aid, most of the time. (If you want some reference look at past threads concerning Fordham FA). Some kids get lucky and get merit aid or good grants or whatever, others either have to decline, or like me, appeal. My parents were urged against taking out Parent Plus loans because of how unforgiving they are. So, the loans are under my name instead. I’m not trying to scare anyone, just being honest and preparing you because it happens every year and the attitude changes real quick once the FA package comes out, depending on what you got.

Fordham is a second rate school that makes promises it can’t keep. If you don’t get in don’t worry - you can do better. If you do get in, think twice about spending all this money on a school that is not a good return on investment. In NYC employers want Columbia or NYU. If you get a great aid package though it could be worth it.

@dildog I respectfully disagree. I love Fordham, despite the high price. And I know plenty of people who got jobs and internships despite not being from high ‘elite’ schools. I’m sorry that you most likely had a bad experience at Fordham, but it’s not like that for everyone, and certainly not for me.

I’m glad you had a better experience, I’m sure some people do.

@dilldog even though you think it is a second rate school, a lot of people still consider it as their top choice. I think what you said is not very respectful for those who think Fordham is their dream school and really try hard to get in. Every one has different backgrounds and different goals. You can’t just look at the tuition and the price tag. People want to go there and they have their very own reasons. Also, I don’t think the “alma mater" plays important role in employment. There are great people who graduate from the “second rate” schools and get great jobs, because they are wonderful individuals. There are also people who graduate from the Ivy schools don’t get the jobs because they have no certain skills. Not everyone go to NYC for college is going to get jobs in NYC and it’s okay.

@fiona1997 You make some good points and I do not mean to be disrespectful. I am speaking to the people here hoping to get in to say if you don’t get in, it is not the end of the world. You will be fine. There are hundreds of schools with as much or more to offer than Fordham.
