From what I’ve read about Fordham, I agree that merit aid can be pretty sparse. However, I too got the likely letter, so I’m hoping I might get something. I don’t have high hopes though - fordham’s expensive, and I won’t even consider attending without a $20k+ merit award.
What is this “likely” letter everyone speaks of?
@Reader13 I am ineligible for parent plus loans, so my D has to go it alone. When you appealed, were you able to get enough without having to take out a private loan? Our EFC is only 3300, and thus far we have been gapped about 30k everywhere, including our in-state schools which offered NO merit aid. (We happen to live in a state with out of control tuition–so much that it is cheaper to pay OOS tuition at a public school than it is to stay in-state).
Anyway, I hope that wasn’t too nosey to ask. I am just really hoping Fordham will be affordable for us.
Thanks!
@pattyboy a small number of EA applicants got an email about 3 weeks ago saying they would be admitted when the decisions come out. (It was news to me, but apparently Fordham does it every year). my D got one.
Villanova EA decisions were released this morning. What the heck Fordham?
@carchivist No, it’s perfectly fine. I’ll give you a breakdown of what I got after the appeal
Metro grant (I’m a commuter) 6K for the whole year.
NYS Tap award (I’m a resident of NY).
Grant in Aid supplement- 4K for the whole year and was only good for the year
Pell Grant-about 1,600 for the whole year. Did not get it after Freshman year due to change in income.
Fordham grant in aid -8K for the whole year. is renewable.
Federal Direct subsidized loan- about 3K for the whole year.
Federal Direct unsubsidized loan- 2K for the whole year.
My parents pay the rest because I didn’t receive any merit aid. Obviously, aid goes up as tuition goes up. Hope this helps!
@Reader13 Thanks! Well done on all of the grants!
Looks like no matter where she goes, we will wind up with a potentially insurmountable gap.
@VanishingK @fordhamfamily read last nights conversation on this thread. We all think it will be today at 4:00. My friend who’s committed there said that’s when his coach said he’s getting his email and then someone else said they spoke to their counselor and they also said today at 4:00. However this could be wrong like it was when we thought it was going to be released on Tuesday.
Aid doesn’t go up as tuition goes up. At least it doesn’t for us. My daughter has a grant-in-aid that hasn’t changed at all each year with a tuition increase. The only thing that changes is the amount of the loans. And I pay a pretty substantial amount out-of-pocket. My only savings this year was the fact she’s in an on campus apartment with a kitchen, so no meal plan. That’s saved me over $5K a year.
Good luck everyone. Hope decisions come soon.
@VanishingK I’m applying to BC for RD. What’s your stats?
What ever the time and date is I am hoping that once the announcement goes up that the site doesn’t crash with everyone logging in at the same time. Several schools had this problem when they announced decisions were up. Keeping fingers crossed.
My counselor confirmed as well that decisions would be released today at 4. So hopefully they’ve planned for the traffic when they do release.
I took the aid increases comment to mean the loan eligibility amount goes up as you progress through school, which it does.
Yep, that’s what I meant. I lump them all together in my head. heh Sorry
Its up!!
Decisions are up!!! Accepted!
Accepted!!!
Geez, finally! Accepted, Gabelli at Rose Hill.
Accepted. Full tuition covered.
@emilyskates Congrats and I’m not surprised! Was that in your letter?
