@Fiona1997 what state are you from? I’m sure that you could still find a great an affordable option.
Where does it show your scholarship amount?
Deferred to northeastern and now Fordham less surprised about northeastern but very surprised about Fordham. My two dream schools :((
@skylersux same here…
@dabawwse I’m from Western MA.
@Fiona1997 I can absolutely guarantee you that you will be accepted to Fordham in April. EA is not always fair and the best applicants are not always accepted right away.
@HONOURSTUDENT I really appreciate it! But how do you know that I’ll get in? I think my 530 on CR is too low for Political Science major, and I’m an international student.
@Fiona1997 You never know how these things go. UMASS Amherst is an awesome school and you could take math classes with the Consortium. I hope you’d consider the Minutemen. Also if you are a female (assumption ,and if wrong I’d apologize) with awesome STEM skills a school like RPI could be awesome also.
Don’t give up hope!
@dabawwse however I’m not going to college for STEM… I’m really interested in Political Science… I am from a Catholic school and I know there is a good amount of girls going to either Assumption or Gordon… these schools are fine, but my parents back home in China have never heard of these schools… they prefer me to go to a better known school with good reputation…
Trust me. Been there done that. Fordham loves international students and you have the stats. Everyone doubts themselves when they don’t get in EA but that does not mean you do not have what it takes to do well at Fordham. They can’t take every application EA but you will be in RD.
@HONOURSTUDENT thank you for telling me that… do you know if there is any chance that they will admit those who are deferred before April 1? I wish I could heard back asap…
@fiona1997 Now is the time to be writing your emails expressing your disappointment and desire to attend Fordham. Be upbeat and ask their advice on how to improve your application for RD. Keep in contact and have your name out there. A deferment is not a rejection. Remind them on why you are a fantastic applicant. Don’t lose your confidence and believe in yourself.
@HONOURSTUDENT yes, I was about to call the office… but do you think an email would be more appropriate?
An email is definitely more appropriate, and actually is standard practice after a deferral.
Best idea would be to see your college counselor and ask for advice on how to draft an email. Furthermore, you’ll want to make sure you’re sending it to your regional admissions officer, the one who’s actually reading your applications
@Fiona1997 Wait until Monday (before the offices close for Christmas) when things calm down at their offices and send an email. Patricia Peek will reply to your email and it will go into your file. You can then follow up after the New Year with a phone call. Don’t sound frantic or call/email too often. Just enough to show that you are truly interested. There are all types of students that attend Fordham. Some smarter than others. You are tops in the RD pool.
@HONOURSTUDENT @dirtysprite2 thanks for the advise, I’ll definitely do that!
@HONOURSTUDENT do you know if there are still interview opportunities after New Year? One of my friends in China got in. My stats is similar or even better than hers, but she did an online interview and got in.
3.9 GPA 2120 (CR 770 W 770 M 600) SAT no merit aid, but accepted (already received likely letter so I thought that was a good indicator of merit aid prospects) Does anyone think I would get merit aid later on?
@Fiona1997, I don’t know about online interviews. The only high school students that get interviewed is Fordham Prep which is the Jesuit high school on campus. It wouldn’t hurt to ask for an online interview in your email.
@Fiona1997 , if you can I would start with your high school counselor. They can call Fordham on your behalf and inquire the reason for your deferral. It would put you in a much better position to concentrate your efforts where they are needed. Counselors do that often, they may even have a good relationship with Fordham .
