Fordham EA Class of 2020 Discussion Thread

@BOBROSS I think it is true.

@BOBROSS if this is true would a 28 in math on the act be good enough? my superscore is a 30 but i have no idea what the act conversion is for the subsections

@jjohnross 28 math score on the ACT converts to a 630-640 sat math. So you might be alright. This is where i found these values https://www.tntech.edu/admissions/actsat .

@BOBROSS thanks for your help. where did you hear about the 650 cut off? when i visited they said that their overall average act was a 28, so i assumed i was ok. now im kinda nervous lol

@BOBROSS @Fiona1997
i found it here http://legacy.fordham.edu/admissions/undergraduate_admiss/applying/admission_deadlines_/freshman_admission_89239.asp
i wonder how important this is i never heard anything about it from admissions

@jjohnross It will most likely come down to how competitive the entering class for the gabelli school of business this year is. It says that +650 is preferred, not required. In my opinion your 28 in ACT math is fine. If you look here http://legacy.fordham.edu/campus_resources/enewsroom/archives/archive_2176.asp the average sat 2 part of last yeras gabelli entering class is only a 1260 so roughly a 630 math/ 630 reading. If you convert this to your ACT you appear to probably be above the average.

Anyone get invited to Admitted Students’ Day? I chose to go on the 8th – will I see any of you there?

I was deferred EA. When are the decisions coming out?

@Fiona1997 Usually end of March, very beginning of April. You’ll get an email when the decisions come out.

Son was deferred EA to regular just got email to check status. Offered place on wait list.

Omg thank you @mscl516 for posting it here!! I was deferred too and I just checked! I got in!

Congrats @ Fiona 1997 I know you were really hoping for that decision. Good luck.

Dito I got the the $25K scholarship, which sound impressive, but the net price is still $42K before books & travel. I realize part of this is NY cost of living, but still seems kind of crazy when I have several good colleges I can attend for around $25K to $30K net.

@Fiona1997 I’m so happy for you! My daughter is currently a junior and if anyone has any questions, I will try my best to answer them.
This is always a stressful time for HS seniors waiting on decisions. When we went through this process her #1 was the University of Miami. She applied EA and was denied and her heart was broken. Fordham was one of the last schools we heard from. It makes me happy to see someone get into their main choice.
Congrats to all.

I was wait listed but I never got an email to check. Also got wait listed from Pepperdine University last night. I’m so confused now and I didn’t think that was possible. Just booked my flight to New York from Minnesota last night  then i checked this morning. ugh.

D wait listed. Originally deferred from EA. 1830 SAT, 3.75W/4.3UW. It’s time to close the book on this one and celebrate the schools to which she has been accepted - Elon, Delaware and a couple of safeties. I’m a Fordham alumna, but the D train stops here. Signing off on this thread, but will be back in 2025, when my little guy will be a HS senior. Perhaps a future Ram, class of 2029? Best of luck to everyone!!

That is a shame when a Fordham alumna with a daughter who has the grades to get in is denied while those with no connection are accepted.

@Fiona1997 So very happy for you!!

@Adamsley why should that matter if she has alumna? I was denied from Northeastern University with alumna and I have the grades? Shes not entitled to admission because you went there. Come on, there were probably better qualified applicants without alumna … nobody should get into a school because of connections. Thats the whole reason BC is dismissed alot.

@caulineire KrinkleKat’s daughter had very good stats for admission. Fordham has a high support system from their alumni. They donate a great amount of money to the university and are active at university events.
Fordham alum have a great love for the university that goes back generations. It is a way of life and a part of us. There is a very good chance that the support of alumni (financial and otherwise) will greatly decrease as their children (with the grades) are rejected from the university. This will probably happen at other colleges also. A number of students transfer out sophomore year–these are primarily students who did not have a previous connection to the university. However, alumni students know the situation at Fordham and are not surprised. I believe that there is more to admission than just accepting the students with the highest grades. Students who grew up at Fordham (and other colleges), who have the grades to attend and a love of the university should gain admission. Some applicants are Rams before they begin Freshman year; others know nothing about the university. I know that KrinkleKat is an alum from her description of the “D” train which brought a smile to me and I understand her disappointment.
