NYU is the largest research institution in the United States. I don’t care what anyone says it’s better. Fordham is a good school, but I hate when people pretend like thier school is Harvard just because they went there. Fordham is a great school but it’s not like NYU, and for someone who wants to major in political science or international relations (OP) NYU is a worldwide institution, not to say Fordham isn’t but it’s not like NYU. This is fact, jesuiteducated i’m glad you have pride in your school, but come on.

Either.

As long as you do well, it really doesn’t matter. Flip a coin.

Jesuiteducated you can’t possibly say people see jesuit and say o ya thats a great school. There are a lot of jesuit schools across the country that are not even close to being a top tier school. Not saying some aren’t very good but many are not so that would just be ridiculous for people to say o it must be a good school because its jesuit. Also who cares about this history of jesuit education and what happened 400 years ago? This means absolutely nothing to how good a school is academically and I promise you that no 18 year old kid is putting that into consideration.

that statement is ridiculous, fordham is light years easier to get into than NYU.

i really did like fordham, and it was my second choice. but i’m turning it down for NYU (and plus, NYU gave me better FA - go figure)

^me too! Fordham gave me the bootleg loyola scholarship for only 8K, while NYU gave me 20K in scholarships. Now how do you explain that? Fordham is cheap!! They must be on crack if they think I can come up with another 42K!!

No I was boarding for a cruise. I was the idiot who dressed for Manhattan weather after just flying down, and was burning up in Florida and didn’t think to put an undershirt on.

I have nothing against NYU; readily recognize that it has some strong programs, but I don’t like reading unfounded criticism directed against Fordham.- Jesuiteducated.

Precisely the point I make, over and over. Its insidious to pit one college against another. And unprofessional. Fordham and NYU share many administrators and professors. My D has had three professors with PhD’s from NYU. She loves them all and they love Fordham.

As for NastyNate, well, your name, sir, about says it all. I am sorry you feel “slighted” by Fordham’s offer of a scholarship and your accusation they are “cheap.” Different schools offer different money to different people for different reasons. Its their money and they can do with it what they want. My D, who had stellar stats, by the way was offered NO academic scholarship coming in the door at Fordham and turned away academic scholarships elsewhere. She has earned an academic scholarship at Fordham now, by virtue of her performance, which strikes me as more valuable on the prestige scale, because its based on fact, not a hope and a dream from a silly SAT score. I wish you well at NYU. Its a fine school.

I abide by the maxim, “Aint no flies on me!” when it comes to a Jesuit education. If you choose to forgo that opportunity, then that is your choice.

But please don’t accuse Fordham of being “cheap.” They do what they can do to help as many students as they can. A lot of schools attempt to spread their money around as best they can, which may mean people get less. I dont know, as I am not inside Fordham and not a financial aid specialist.

Finally, your SAT score and gpa does not entitle you (or anyone) to a scholarship. Scholarships are gifts. The Ivy League HAS no scholarships. (cf. athletes) They offer financial aid to those who need it. Frankly, I wish all schools operated that way. So that people would get over themselves before they walk in the door. I would much rather schools hold back “scholarships” for deserving students after Freshman year and see how they perform.

The notion that you are not “special” or “elite” because you didnt get an academic scholarship, is ridiculous. Anyone with a lick of common sense and a little bit of homework knows that the SAT score is not always a very good indicator of success in college and its only an indicator that one person did very well on one Saturday for that type of examination. Its not a measurement of intelligence.

To Stephenn:

I dont think Fordham is light years easier to get into than NYU. NYU gets more applications than Fordham. It is generally regarded as more difficult to get into, but many students overlap both at Fordham and NYU as you did.

The college experience at NYU is much different than it is at Fordham. Different strokes for different folks. If they gave you more money, good for you.

Good luck at NYU. I wish you the very best.

^es’cuh me? let me just say this endlessrecession judging by YOUR name you would think that money might be a concern, and I think I would rather come out of school with hmmm…50,000 in debt over the 125,000 I would have to repay if I went to Fordham. Four people from my school applied to Fordam and we were all accepted which strikes two points.

Firstly, our scores ranged from 1700-2100 and all four were accepted. Now lets be real if you think a 1700 is going to get you into NYU you’re a crackhead. Two people applied to NYU from my school and I was the only acceptee. Now I hate the SAT, but I deserved my scholarships for the time I took to study and prep for that horrible test, and Fordham in not seeing that is cheap. The girl who was rejected had a 1900 with tons of ecs.

Secondly, for all the Fordham acceptees at my school, each of us got the bootleg loyola. I don’t care what you say it’s cheap when over there is a 500 SAT point difference between applicants and you give them all the same scholarship.

Nasty – It sounds like you have an ax to grind with Fordham and have a chip on your shoulder in general.
If, indeed, you were accepted to NYU, please go and spread your cheer on the NYU board. There is no need to come on to the Fordham board where most people perceive Fordham in the same way you perceive NYU.

I wish you the best of everything, even if I find your arguments tenuous at best.

nastynate0315, listen, no one is entitled to scholarships. As endlessrecession said, they are in fact a gift. Your sat prep isn’t really worth a damn. You’re not supposed to be really preping for it anyway. The exam was meant to be takes with fairly little prep. You just got sucked into the test prep culture.
So where was i, ah yes, scholarships are a gift. If you were not one of the people chosen offered this gift, accept it and move on. Judging from your tone, you don’t like fordham anyway. No sense in obsessing about it, right? If money is a major concern, go to a state school. If you want the name, they you gotta pay for it. Ain’t no way around it.

I have one final suggestion for nate: Please post your school’s name presently so that we and Fordham can be well advised that in the future they won’t make the mistake of offering scholarships to people and to a school where they are sneered and called “cheap”. There are many schools outside of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut where any scholarship to Fordham would be received with dignity and appreciation, welcomed in a difficult economic climate.

Thank you.

Good luck at NYU.

So, are you employed by Fordham? You say that you are not, but you post as if you are. You’ve changed your name again.

endlessrecession, Southernbbq, nocousin, nonelitist, Seafoodlover, Swansong, friedokra, etc

No, so sorry to disappoint you. I’m just an old fashioned supporter of Fordham University. I guess that wrankles you for some strange reason. Go figure.

Who are you? Just 29 posts on your current moniker? You give me the creeps. Big time. Come no now, tell us who you really are. Geeez.

Happy Easter.

I’m a mom with kids in college and more on their way. I’m on here from time to time with my latest college-to-be kid. Obviously, I mostly read and rarely post. In the time that you’ve been posting(same stuff over & over) I’ve gotten 2 off to colleges. I give you the creeps? I’ve had one name in the two years that I’ve been here. You’ve changed yours at least 7 times (probably more, I don’t have time to keep track of you). Sorry, I can’t help but notice your very distinct style. I feel that those who are new to this should know that you are all one person.

First of all I say what I want! I can call Fordham whatevah I like. It’s all the damn Catholic schools. Even beyond the scholarship the financial aid sucked. The point i’m trying to make is even if I wanted to go to Fordham I couldn’t! I don’t know where you or Fordham expect me to pull out the 200K it would cost me to go there, honey.

Really, has it come to name calling?

And you all wonder why we don’t formally participate in this forum? Yeesh.

I just have to say I read the rest of this thread and this is ridiculous. The OP is genuinely trying to pick between schools and I’m merely telling the facts, or at least what I have gathered from reading other threads. Many students recieved packages that they were unhappy with. I’ve read the other threads and I have to ask have you? I don’t want to drag this out any further, BUT endlessrecession I have seen your post on other threads and you need to chill out. I have a right to state my opinion.

One of my friends got $25k in aid from Fordham. If they don’t give you enough, you’re supposed to send a letter to Financial Aid, explain your situation and ask for additional funds. He got an extra $4k from doing that, if I recall correctly.

That said, I’m glad to see there’s no short supply of elitism.

^Who invited you? When were you a part of this? lol. (@ endlessrecession)

My invitation must have been lost in the mail.
