Sovereigndebt, it kind of was a last-minute thing for her to apply to Fordham. They sent her a fee waiver, and she just added it to her Common App list of schools. She’s not sure if she wants to run in college, especially D1. Wants the whole college experience without the time restraints. But I want her to keep all options open, especially if it’s going to lower the total cost of school, which is a big plus in my book. She does love the theater, so she may indeed audition. Waiting to hear from her No. 1 school, Wake, in March, which is test optional, before she makes a final decision. I’m not too surprised that she probably won’t get a lot of $$, but she has some others where she did get some decent $$.
@SoliDeoGloria1 - Many worthy candidates get deferred each year from Fordham and are ultimately accepted. Because EA is non-binding colleges tend to accept only candidates who are over the typical standards of the school and defer the rest. This is different from ED schools which often give an advantage to applicants who apply early. None of us works for admissions so nobody can give you a definitive answer as to why you were deferred. But I would let Fordham know it is still one of your top choices and inform admissions if you have any noteworthy achievements etc. since your EA application was submitted.
I don’t think it was your intended major that really made a difference (I don’t think admissions officers pay a lot of attention to intended majors because so many students end up switching once they are in college), but if you want you can certainly include in any correspondence to Fordham that you are hoping to double majoring in either Theology or Philosophy.
Good luck.

Every kid and every family and every situation is different and very personal I understand completely. A couple of points to share however.
Wake is a very very good school. Its exceptional. Good luck there. (Duke is harder to get in, but I know people who say Wake is tougher once you are there.)
If your daughter is thinking theater without all the “drama” so to speak, pardon the pun, then Rose Hill has theater productions and its a club and hobby. Not a career choice.
Further, running at Fordham may well give you more money. Contact the track coach immediately and notify them of the situation.
Dont be afraid of the Bronx. That is urban legend. Manhattan is exciting and Lincoln Center is fabulous with a new building, but its much smaller and has a lot of commuter students and its not a “campus”. So if your daughter wants a beautiful campus, classic gothic buildings, very strong academics, and a chance to run…and maybe do some theater on the side, think hard about asking Fordham to change her admission to Rose Hill instead. Do not be afraid.
We are southerners and we did Rose Hill and it was marvelous. There is culture shock because its New York, but if you power through all of that and the dorm drama and stay away from drinkers (at all schools…including Wake btw), you will be fine.
If you havent already auditioned for the Theater Program at Lincoln Center, then I dont know the protocol, but I think its uber selective and may well be on their way to filling that program…so get on that if that is what she wants career wise. its a tough call at age 18 to know your life plan. Theater is very competitive and many dont make it. So think about that.
Best of luck.
UGH… really late, but I got deferred.
Bio Major at Rose hill
Ive been doing good in school with a 3.8 GPA, volunteer,
I’ve transferred 3 schools in 3 different locations and managed to keep my consistency.
I took 2 AP’s as a junior (english and Bio without chem as a prerequisite and merged to do good?!?!) And 2 AP’s as a senior (US Gov and English Literature)
Volunteer hours,
2 year job and the
best recommendations made specifically for fordham from my chem and genetics teachers, the guidance counselor’s is also a gold mine

NY resident
accepted to Hofstra ($20,000/ yr) NYIT ($15,000/yr)…

rosheena:
Dont be embarrassed. You are not alone. Every year tens of thousands if not more suffer the same fate with SAT scores. you should take it again. There is a method to doing well. If not, take the ACT and try that.
And there is a school for you. Lots of kids dont get their dream school. And have to go elsewhere. Many never look back and find their path, grateful for where they get in and make the best of it.
Not saying you wont get in, but it is difficult with that SAT score unless there is another factor that might help you. Keep working hard. And you are not a number, nor defined by your SAT, nor which schools accept you. You are defined by your character and hard work. Always remember that. Character ALWAYS trumps prestige, and silly SAT scores. Character matters for life…and that is something within your control.
Best of luck.
@rosheena its ok. my sat was 1690 but my ACT was 26. I think you will get in. Oh i also got in NYIT. r u southeast asian. ur name sounds like it me tooo.
I got my honors program acceptance today and tbh fordham’s really high on my list now because of it!
Has anyone rec’d their full merit and financial aid packet or email yet?
How do you verify your account on the fb page?
@jford17 It is a link they send you via email. If you don’t have it, just ask them to resend it.
Accepted to Gabelli 3.9 GPA 1300 SAT
Does anyone know if there is still a chance to receive scholarship money from Fordham?
As of today, no notification. They said by January 31st …
Thanks… I just got an email that says the January 31st date may be delayed due to the snow storm; hopefully they are generous with scholarship awards.
I had logged onto the financial aid portal several times in the past week and was able to click on a link that said something like “financial aid shopping sheet” that listed a scholarship of $23,600 along with other figures for COA, EFC, and net cost to family. But tonight when I logged on, that fin aid shopping sheet button had completely disappeared. So now I’m wondering if the scholarship figure I saw was for real or not. Weird.

Hey everyone, I’m a new poster and had a quick question! I am a student who was admitted EA to Fordham and just received an email saying I had been invited to attend the “Experience Fordham” program. It is an all expenses paid trip and I had never heard of this before. Does anyone else here know anything about this or did anyone else get this email/invitation? I’m contemplating attending but didn’t know much about it…
@ibther4iam - There is a thread about Experience Fordham, just a few threads down. Might have good info there. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/fordham-university/1732526-experience-fordham-march-5-7.html#latest
