Hi, so I was waitlisted RD after being deferred EA. I was really disappointed to be waitlisted, but I’m happy it wasn’t an outright rejection. I also applied to Fordham University at Lincoln Center. I just wanted to know what my chances are off getting in off the waitlist and what I could do to improve my chances? Thank you!
The best way it to show your interest. You should call you admissions counselor and speak to them. Bring them up to date on anything that has changed since your application went in. This is the time to make yourself shine - bragging allowed Of course they want to take someone off the waiting list who has intent on going. Make yourself known and your chances will improve. Best of luck to you and remember, whenever you end up, you will be successful!
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to answer. I’ll be sure to call or email and let them know that I’m still interested. Hopefully, everything works out!
LC is much smaller than RH. So maybe also tell them you are open to attending RH. Also, grades matter, though the SAT is the biggest impediment to admission. So get your grades in quickly. Show strong support and commit to attending if they offer.
They do take kids off the waitlist. But its not a lot of people and depends, year to year, how many accept places at Fordham…dorm space!
Good luck.
Hey all!
So I was waitlisted after being deferred EA. Fordham is still my #1 though and I’m really striving to get off the waitlist! I said on my response form that I would consider both Gabelli schools, an offer of admission to a different campus, and deferring my admission to Spring 2016. I also e-mailed my admissions rep after getting my decision and said that Fordham is still my top choice and that I’m going to attend an information session/tour at Lincoln Center. I also sent my admissions rep a letter further explaining my passion for Fordham and an essay about my experiences during my current gap year. Do you guys think it would be too pushy to ask to meet with my admissions rep in person while I’m in the city? I saw someone do the same thing last year on CC and it turned out well for that person!
Thebirdman5091, there’s an old saying, “if you want something done, then do it yourself”. Email the Director of Administrations at Fordham yourself. This shows you are in control of your life. It’s a good thing. If you love NYC, express that with emotion. Maybe tell about an important thought that makes you want to be at Fordham. If you took any business classes at school, talk about how they changed or affected you. If you have a job, talk about how you could make it better. If your sats and GPA are not great, tell them you will work hard if given the chance. Tell them Fordham is your Top School and would be grateful to be part of the Ram Family!. I will say a prayer for you. If you still love Fordham, then go for it!
@thebirdman5091 Hi! So I basically did the same thing and emailed my admissions rep and the director of undergrad admissions. I hope to hear back from them soon, but I was wondering where you sent your letter? I wrote one and am going to send it soon. Also, how soon did you hear back from them?
I sent them an email @nplabutong the day I was waitlisted! They responded less than a week later. They told me they would lets us know if we are off the waitlist in May. I’m guessing mid to end of May. I also asked if there’s anything I can do to improve my chances and they said I did the most important thing already - reserving my spot on the list.
@spldnlvr Thank you! Hopefully a few spots open up and we get in off the wait list!
Sorry to be annoying, but I’m curious to know if anyone has heard back yet? Or do you think it’s too early?
It all depends on how many kids accepted an offer of admission and their expected RESIDENT student enrollment. Many waitlisted kids get in if they are commuters…because there is no need for a dorm space.
Many schools start informing waitlisters mid may and run until early June. Some notify you very very late…as people get off the waitlist for an Ivy or super LAC. Or change their minds and cant afford it etc.
You should not count on being admitted. You should count on going where you accepted an offer of admission. You can call admissions and see where you are on the waitlist. Good luck.
If a student were to live off campus in a nearby apartment, how impactful would that be to freshman social orientation?
sourmash:
Have you been admitted? Resident student or commuter? I dont recommend living off campus as a freshman unless you are a commuter and live locally.
However, all freshmen are included in orientation activities and its up to you to make friends on campus if you live off campus.
Just my two cents.
@sovereigndebt . Waitlisted but live in tri state area so reviewing my options regarding Fordham if I’m fortunate enough to be admitted.
Good luck. For now, go with Plan B, and have a plan if Fordham does come through. In the old days before technology most all studying was done in dorms and library. Of course in really old days, most college kids (all across country) were locals and many lived at home. Now, computers rule the roost and thus its not that critical to be on campus. It will be up to you to make friends and hang with them, wherever. In a large sense, not being in a dorm and living at home is optimal for grades. No drama. No lack of sleep.
Its critical to get good grades. Best grades get jobs.
waitlist decisions came out around this time/week last year so I’m hoping we get decisions soon!
Does Fordham only contact you if you make it off the waitlist or do they also tell you that you didn’t make it? Also, when do we reach the point where a positive outcome is highly unlikely? mid-May, end of May?
I called my daughter’s admission’s counselor yesterday, and she said they are not looking at their waiting list at this time.
It depends on the number of students who accept offers and dorm space. Typically that is formalized by the end of May. But if someone gets into an Ivy,. e.g. and then bolts late, then a space may open up later.
anyone heard back?
