i am applying to berkeley this fall as an out-of-state, however, i ve never taken any foreign language class, -_-;;
does that disqualify me from applying to the UCs??
i immigrated from china in 2001, i have 800 in SAT chinese

i get the feeling it might disqualify you =/ check with your counselor about it asap.

off-topic question - if you take one year of foreign language at high school, but it's a level 5 course (mandarin 5, spanish 5, etc), does that count as '5 years' of foreign language?

Good luck with getting an exception to this one! You should call the admissions office and not wait for an e-mail reply. I think the 2 years foreign language (more yrs are recommended) is not going to be waived for you. Also, hopefully you have 3 good SAT II scores. The 800 in Mandarin is not that big of a deal since its your native language. Hope it all works out for you.

i took esl classes when i was in 8th and 9th grade, could that be considered as foreign language classes?? in fact, english is my foreign language....

i ahve average SAT II scores, 760 IIc and 750 chem

I believe that if you take the Chinese With Listening, SAT Subject Exam, and you score over 540, that will satisfy the "e" Language Other Than English Requirement. You should check with UC admissions just to make sure.

thnx for the reply, i did take chinese with listening... but i dotn know how to contact UC beside email -_-;;

should i call them or something?
deadline is coming soon, and i have all the application done online, could someone confirm my eligibility? i am very worried >_<;;

My friend who came from china during his 9th grade took mandarin class offered in our school, so I suppose if that's your case, you should be okay.
