When colleges recommend 3 years of foreign language do they mean 3 semesters? I took spanish 1 in 9th grade, spanish 2 over the summer, and spanish 3 in 10th grade. I couldn’t fit anymore language classes in my schedule for the rest of high school so i crammed in 3 semesters my first 2 years.
3 years or up to level 3. You are fine if you have reached Level 3 Spanish.
They mean three years, but since you took a year’s worth of material over the summer its all good you’ll be fine. Just make sure you check the requirements of colleges you are applying to, to check if they require 4 years.
Is your high school a block schedule one where you take about three or four (instead of six to eight) courses per semester, but each one is equivalent to a year long course at other high schools?
Or does it just number the FL courses by semester rather than year (so that you need to complete semester 6 to get to level 3)?
We run on a block schedule. 1 semester to complete one level
They mean level 3, so you’re good if they say “3 years”.
Some universities want level 4 (“4years”) so check to make sure.
@MYOS1634 Does that mean that I have fulfilled the requirements for “4 years” because I’m a sophomore taking AP Spanish 4? Because it’s techincally only my third year of taking Spanish classes (I skipped Spanish 3)
^ Yes, AP Spanish meets the “level 4 or AP” expectation.
