So I got accepted under Early Decision and am deciding between Founders and Hayden for dorming. Which one do you guys suggest? What are the pros and cons of each? Thanks.

two main things:
location: go with hayden, it’s on the park and you can get to class relatively quickly. founders is a pain to get back to in case you left anything in your room that you need for class.
quality/size of rooms: founders. it’s new, and the rooms are huge. 2 of my friends from high school live there and when i visited them i was like omg. it is a new building though so it has the sterile feeling.

i personally live in goddard and i think its great cause of the location and the rooms are pretty nice, plus the starbucks on the ground floor doesn’t hurt. to each his own though.

hayden: building’s old but rooms are still pretty big. i have a friend who lives in hayden and her room is nice. and it’s close to campus. also, hayden has a dining hall.
founders: the building’s new so everything’s nice. i would love to live there. but bad things are that it’s far from campus and no dining hall… even though 3rd north dining hall is like a block away, i have friends who say they usually don’t go because they’re lazy.

honestly, for first year, i recommend you get a dorm that’s close to campus. or you’ll probably be skipping classes a lot. (not that people close by never skip class but it’s more likely if you live farther away) and having a dining hall in your dorm is convenient. you can just go downstairs and grab something to eat. bad thing about hayden dining hall is that it closes early and i think it’s closed on fridays?

i personally would choose hayden. even though founders is really nice, ive realized that being close to campus is good.

Pick 3N! lol

Some of the rooms in Third North are really jank, though. Like “falling apart/mold” jank, but I believe they just did a renovation, so that might not be the story now, lol.

Hayden has an unofficial rep of being the “ED party dorm”, but I can’t verify or dispel that rumor. I do know that a ridiculous amount of ED students do Hayden. If you are vegan or vegetarian, PICK HAYDEN. I brought a vegan friend from outside NYU to Hayden for lunch and she was floored at how good the food was and how seriously NYU takes veganism.

Ehh I guess people have different tastes when it comes to food. I’m vegetarian and I hate hayden’s food. lol.

I guess when you come from an area that is not particularly vegan/veggie friendly (cough Texas) what might be bleh to you is awesome to someone else. ;-)

missamericanpie: Yeah I am definitely praying that I get one of the better dorms, which a kitchen that isn’t rundown lol. The reason I am choosing 3N is because I like the location even if it is far away, and especially because I love to cook!

I am a freshman at NYU currently, and I live at Founders. Although there’s no dining hall yet (because it’s new) Third North is right across the street, and has the best food. And Palladium (which has the gym and Wasserman Career Center) is one street over. Since it’s on 12th street, Union Square is VERY CLOSE, which means a plethora of shopping areas and easy subway access.

PLUS, the dorms are huge and amazing and clean. I’m not sure, but I think Hayden has carpeting in their dorms, and even though that seemed nice to me at first, the carpet always tends to get disgusting quickly. You can always invest in some of your own carpets, which is what I did. In general, Founders is super clean and large, which is most important, to me, for a residence hall.

As for classes, Founders is a 10 minute walk from the Washington Square campus, which I know might be a stretch, but honestly it’s not that bad. Anyway, not all my classes were in Washington Square.

Hey a20emr!!
so i am leaning toawrds founders for all of the reasons u just listed…however…as an incoming freshman…i dont want to be seperated from NYU life (such as the social events, the parties, the gatherings…which seems to all occur in Hayden and around Washington Square Park)…do u feel isolated by being a part of Founders?
