Founding a club at your school?

Alright, I hope this is the right place for this sort of question, and if not, just bear with me please. ^^

I’m a bit lacking in the extracurricular department, but my school doesn’t offer many clubs or activities outside of sports and speech/debate, both of which I am involved in.

I’ve always been interested in language, and I’ll be in French 3 next year as a junior. I’ve been thinking about trying to found a French Club at my school, and I’m fairly sure I could get my teacher to go along with it.

Now, here are my questions.

How does one go about founding a club and making it “official”?

If any of you are in a language club, what kind of activities do you do in it?

Thanks! :)

Hey, are you willing to start a French Honor Society?

I'm not sure how to go about starting a club of any kind, actually.

What would starting a French Honor Society entail? I'd be willing to start one, most likely, if I understood what it was about, lol.

Well, I believe you have to find a teacher who is associated with La Soci

Hmm, my school doesn't offer honors classes in language, and I'm not sure if my teacher is associated with that organization. I'll definitely talk to her about it, though - when school starts, I'll basically be pitching her this big idea of mine, lol. There's only about 15 kids in French in my grade, but there are probably more than 100 French students in the school who might be interested in some kind of club. Thanks for the advice, MPerfectionist, I'll look into the honor society route, and if that doesn't work, I'll try and start up a regular ol' club.

I'm the person with the similar post---
anyways I agree we're in the same situation. However, my school already has several clubs established. My foreign language is Spanish, but we already have the Sociedad Honoraria Hisp

I'm gonna quote what I said on another post:

Oh wait, you speak French. Crepes anyone?

Crepes are delicious, as is fondue. ;)

We have Key Club at my school, but it's a joke and there are never meetings for it, lol. I might join just for the hell of it, just so I can call myself a Key Club member. I really want to join something that will look good for my college app - I would join Pokemon Club in a second, but I think I'd have to keep it a secret, lol. :)

NHS is among the stronger clubs, if not the strongest and most acclaimed in terms of academic organizations.

I came up with 3 so far - Key Club, Greenpeace Club (which does not exist), Sierra Club (which is the name of an environmental organization). Upon approval, I might found Key Club and an environmental club (which would actually be unprecedented).

I'm on the board of our school's Student Council, and anyone who wants to introduce a new club has to do it formally, and before the entire council. They also have to have a supervisor (usually a teacher), and an non-academic agenda. For example, your French club couldn't just be a group of kids doing their French homework. You'd have to be doing something above and beyond the curriculum.

At least that's how it is at my school. Do you have an active SGA at your school? Perhaps you can ask them.

Well, I think I could easily get my French teacher on board, and I was hoping some of you guys could give me ideas on activities to do in a French Club - helping out younger students, maybe, or having French foods, etc.

I'm not sure how the club-making process works at my school - I'm pretty sure the student council has nothing to do with it, because our student council might as well just be called Prom Planning Committee because that's all they're allowed to do.

I think I'll see about making some kid of French Club when school starts, and maybe one other club type thing. My school is a bit lacking when it comes to extracurriculars other than sports, though, so we'll see how it goes.

At our school, there's a certain assistant principal, in my understanding, that handles the clubs, not the student council. Thus this process will vary from school to school. Also, you should gather about 1 or 2 more friends and a teacher who will sponsor the club for planning. I narrowed my list down to Key Club and Sierra Student Coalition (SSC). Maybe I can direct both? Good luck!

books? boooooo

Good luck to you too, qwerty.

I'll try and have some kind of pitch together when school starts, get my French teacher involved, and see where things go from there. Hopefully I can get something together and colleges will appreciate my initiative, lol. :)

We have an AA club, (Asian Alliance) JSU (Jewish Student Union). Some clubs you could create would be Red Cross (bettering the community or disaster relief) or a People to People Club (fostering knowledge of different cultures).
