Currently, I have just started my first undergraduate year at FSU. However, I have realized too late that I actually would like to go to UF. My friends (who are big factors in why I want to go there) are also trying to attend UF but are starting out with Sante Fe community college (their sister school) so that they earn their AA degree at a cheaper price (the main factor as to why I want to go there), and later transfer to UF once obtained. What I would like is to know is will my chances for UF be hindered with all these transfers and will my chances for financial aid decrease from Santa Fe due my transfer?
On your chances to transfer to UF, don’t worry about the difference of transferring from a CC or a 4-year university. You should focus on your major. Different majors have different levels of competitiveness. It’s a lot easier to transfer to UF as an anthropology major, than as a mechanical engineer.
Research your major at UF and it’s transfer requirements.
As an example, here’s a link to the College of Liberal arts and Sciences (CLAS) transfer requirements. It even list what GPA is required to be a competitive transfer student.

For example, an English major must typically have a minimum 2.5 GPA on all attempts of these prerequisite courses to be competitive.
On the other hand, a Psychology major must typically have a minimum 3.5 overall GPA to be competitive. They also must have Bs or better on first attempts (including Ws) of the prerequisite courses.
Transferring from FSU or Santa Fe shouldn’t impact your chances at financial aid. If you have a FSU freshman merit scholarship (other than Bright Futures), you would lose it when you transfer to UF.
Good Luck!
Good question, @lulelopez!
You are not the first student who started at a state university and during their first term, decided to look into other institutions. Santa Fe College enrolls transfer students every term who started at SUS schools (including FSU!) and transfer to SF with the hope of getting into the University of Florida as juniors.
Our Academic Advisors work closely with UF Transfer Advisors in every UF college to make sure our AA graduates have the courses they need to continue their studies at UF.
SF was named the #1 college in the nation by the Aspen Institute in 2015 in part because of our strong track record of preparing students for success at the University of Florida and other top research universities.
