fourth recommendation letter

Right now, I have three letters of recommendation being sent to rice: one from a counselor and two from a teacher(One english, one physics). I recently had a friend write a peer evaluation for Dartmouth and was wondering if it would be a good idea to submit it, even though it would make four recs, which seems a bit much. My friend has known me since fourth grade and he would be able to talk about some other aspects of who I am that teachers probably wouldn't know about. Any comments?

Wait until you are deferred or something. As of now, an extra recommendation letter, in my opinion, won't significantly affect the decisions of your admission.

four is too much...rice only requires one (from a teacher)...i only submitted one teacher and one counselor...admitted ED:)

i don't think it matters too much....however, i did submit a total of 4 recs....the counselor one, two teachers, and one from my volunteer coordinator at the hospital....and i got admitted ED....though i would advise not to submit any more than 4 under whatever circumstance....just make sure that each recommendation brings out a different side of you....sending 3 or more recs that mention your same qualities over and over again would be unimpressive

I agree with collegekid, you should definitely not submit more than 4 recs. In one of the admissions information sessions that I went to, an admissions officer spoke about how after four recs, the teachers start repeating each other and it rarely adds anything new to your application. All you'd be doing at that point is giving your teachers extra work that really isn't necessary.
