FPF-Signed up for wrong math class

While signing up for classes for FPF (incoming freshman), I signed up for Math 1B instead of Math 1A. I only have a 5 on the AP Calc AB exam, so I don't have the credits to satisfy 1A. (I don't know how I was this stupid, but for some reason at the time of requesting classes, I thought that the exam satisfied 1A). I also don't want to prevent myself from being able to apply to Haas, and their undergrad program requires two semesters of calc. I already contacted FPF and they told me that I could only change my math course after instruction.

So if I'm planning on switching classes, should I even bother going to class (1B)? Or would it be better for me to attend? I would feel really bad about skipping class during the first days, but I feel that it's useless to attend class if you already know you're going to change. Also, is there any way I can sit in on a 1A class so that when I switch in, I won't be missing too much? Or is this not necessary?

If you guys have any suggestions as to how I can change my math course before instructions starts, please tell me! Otherwise, what's the best way to handle this situation?
Sorry about all these questions, I'm really nervous about it all. Thank you!

Also I’m assuming that my entire schedule will change after I change math classes. If I take this into account, when should I purchase text books? I heard that most people try and buy text books within the first week of class. How detrimental would it be if I don’t have text books for my classes at that time? I’m trying to arrange an appointment on the first day of instruction so I won’t miss too much instruction, but I’m not sure if that will be possible.

5 on AB counts as Math 1A according to the math department. You may want to check the old final exams for Math 1A to be sure that you know the material contained in that course.

If you take Math 1B without taking Math 1A, then decide to apply to the business major, you can just take Math 53 or 54 to fulfill the math prerequisite for the business major.

If you do want to drop and switch, do attend the class you are registered for and do all of the work until you have finalized the drop and switch.
