I am a spring admit, I will be attending FPF in the fall, I am planning on completing my pre-med reqs as well as pre-reqs for Haas. I want to double major in Molecular Cell Biology and Business. Is it more beneficial to major in a "easier" field where my gpa can be maximized for medical school? Also, should I take Math 1A at FPF? I heard I can take Math 1B at FPF (provided I get a 5 on my calc bc exam) and that it's easier at FPF so should i take Math 1B fall semester and Math 1A during spring at Cal...Is there any truth or strategy to this? How difficult is the 1 series, i did calc ab last year and calc bc this year so with two years of calc under my belt should i still be worried?

Here is my course schedule for FPF fall semester that im looking at:
-math 1a
-rhetoric 1a Total:17 units (Heavy first semester?)
-history ac
-poly science
+1 Freshman seminar in MCB

Any advice on this schedule would be a lot of help! I'm planning on having it set so when the form comes out May 2, I can fax it that day and get first priority on classes, good idea or just silly? Stoked about Cal, Go Bears!

If you get a 5 on AP Calculus BC, you can take Math 53 or 54, [according to the Math department](http://math.berkeley.edu/courses_AP.html), but you’ll have to wait until you are a “real” Berkeley student, since these courses are not offered in FPF.

There is no point in taking Math 1A if you have already taken Math 1B. Actually, if you get a 5 on AP Calculus BC, you will probably find Math 1A and/or 1B a waste of time and/or tuition money relearning the same stuff you already know (you are going to Berkeley to learn something new).

Haas accepts Math 53 or 54 for its math requirement. Check medical schools which require calculus (not all do) for what they say about taking more advanced math courses.

Simultaneous degrees between Haas and MCB may be hard to fit into an 8 semester schedule, especially if you are unable to take Chemistry 1A or 4A in your first semester (not offered in FPF). However, MCB is not required to be a pre-med, though even fitting pre-med courses around a business major may take some careful scheduling. And yes, some pre-meds do try to find the major and courses with the highest grade inflation to raise their GPA for medical school (or law school).

I don’t know if you can take seminars as an FPF student… but anyway, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE RHETORIC R1A!!! Karen is an amazing professor; you will love her! She is extremely helpful and sweet.
