we call it freakdancing, grinding and bootydancing from where i go to school...teachers generally dont care as long as it doesnt get too outrageous..i personally like to a lil bump n grind but its kinda awkard when u are class president and the principal is watchin you freak the hell outta some random girl haha

nevermind.....

There was just an article about this in my newspaper. It's in the teen section and in a place called the Regulated Riot where each side is argued.

Here are the articles:

Against booty dancing:

Happens at every school dance- our administration tries to stop it with very little success. Everyone, from the valedictorian to the kids who hang around the soda machines, grinds at dances. Our administration's new tactic to avoid this and also drinking is to not have dances. That's right- they've canceled everything except prom.

they cancelled all your dances?!?!? that's harsh. :( it happens at my school too. ppl care, but they are too afraid to stop it. all the teachers just complain and act disgusted on Monday

"We grind in front of our teachers. Hell, they do it too."

Lmfao.

No freak dancing rule here at our school. I mean, they do it in front of the administrators, who don't seem to mind, as long as everyone has an ID and no one is drunk. I personally don't mind a lil' grinding...

I enjoy it and it's def the only type of dancing you would see at our school dances but really when you think of it, it is kind of.... nonkosher. I mean when you think about you are basically gretting a girl on the dance floor by rubbing your "junk" against her "booty". It really doesn't seem like an appropriate way, especially for teenager, to dance. Think about when you are thirty or fourty, would this seem proper? I can see why schools would make rules against it, but it really is harmless because of the ubersexual society in which we live. I say harmless since both people involved in grinding see thsi as just a style of dancing, a few decades ago a girl participating in such a dance would have led the guy to believe the girl was interested in doing much more.

I agree plagmayer even though I've never participated in it. I just don't know how even though people tell me it's very simple. I've wonder though was grinding meant to be for the boys that was perfected by the girls? Lol just a thought.

It's actually very intuitive. I was nervous the first time I tried (in December), but really, it's easy. And I do find it quite enjoyable, even though I'm a girl ;)

i go to this "prestigious" science magnet high school and we're notorious around the county for being considered nerds, but when i showed up for the freshman dance two years ago, i was pretty much shocked from the amount of freaking going on. but personally, i don't find it that damaging, it's just a little fun.. everyone at school does it, from the nerds to the jocks. as long as my mother doesn't walk into the dance room.. :P

Who thinks freak dancing is just kinda gross? Am I the only one?

Yes, you're the only one.

Never been to a dance. I think the administration banned it or something though.

Our admin is really cracking down. They make everyone carry ID cards with them and if they get you for dancing too dirty they'll confiscate it, and then the next time they'll kick you out.

Last dance(before they enacted that policy), they would go through the crowds breaking up freakers. But as soon as they turned their back people would go back at it again, and to make matters worse some of the gutsyer guys started grinding them. It was friggin hilarious.

My opinion on freaking is that I dont care for it. If I wanted to have dry sex I'd just come back to my room with another person and voila, MUCH more fun. I'd much rather swing dance. Oh man I love to swing.

Okay, I will chime in as a mom...I went to a mother/daughter dance and the DJs- two young hip guys...said the following:

"Now girls, we were at a highschool dance last week and I watched this girl just sticking out her booty, and this guy was you know, up against her, then the guys switched off, back and forth, the girl didn't know the guys were doing this, and as a young black man, I found it offensive...girls if you can't see his eyes, he ain't respecting you...its just dry sex and he don't care about you, just what he gets...."
of course our D;s were mortified and the moms all applauded

so girls, think about what you are giving away to horny teenage boys who don't even care what your name is...picture a dog doing the nasty to your leg, it isn't much different....

ps- yeah, if this is the only way you know how to dance, as a mature young adult, you will look really quite silly

man, that felt good so say!!!!!

citygirlsmom -- I understand what you're saying, but I don't think it needs to be taken so seriously. I suppose it depends on the person, but for me at least it's all good-natured fun. I go to a small school, though, and all the guys I dance with are close friends.

edit: And the whole concept of 'freak dancing' with the (self-proclaimed) nerds in my advanced math class is just too great to pass up.

Its still dry sex....ask the boys...if they are honest thats what it is, if they say its not, they are fibbing....

but its your body....

I'm not morally opposed to 'dry sex', assuming it's consensual. I don't think it's the school's place to regulate it; it should be up to the individual to decide what s/he is comfortable with.

Personally, I think girls with self respect don't just give their bodies to any guy to hump themselves on. But, if you really like guys grinding themselves into you get their jollies, well go ahead. It is really degrading towards women and someday, you will see that. And, somehow, I went through highschool and danced and had fun and really enjoyed myself, but I didn't need to be a rubbing post.

And while girls may thing it makes them popular, it doesn't.
