I know decisions are going to be mailed on Sunday, but after just getting my first two rejections I’m panicking about whether I’ll get in. I got rejected from Boston College, which notably is much harder to get into when considering average SAT and GPA scores, but it has a higher acceptance rate than AU. should I be expecting a rejection, or does AU just have people with lower stats apply??? My SAT score is a 1320 (650 Math, 670 CR) and my GPA is a weighted 4.3 (don’t know UW). I previously thought I had American in the bag basically but now I’m nervous that I could get rejected and I don’t want to get my hopes up!
I’m freaking out too!! Your stats are good though so I think you’ll get in!
@seoneill17 thanks! Good luck, I can’t wait to hear back from them!!
Bump? Just wondering if anyone has any insight as to why their acceptance rate is so low, and if I should try to start considering denial being a possibility?
I got rejected from a bunch of schools this week too. I am nervous for AU as that is one the few schools I have left to hear from.
A mom here, my D is freaking too, please try not to worry, it’s out of your hands! Keep busy, keep your mind active, the time will pass more quickly! If your scores were good enough to apply you’re clearly bright, intelligent young adults and you will end up where you’re meant to be! My D was denied ED at her dream school, cried for a month then found a school that suited her even better. Have faith, go for a run, burn off that nervous energy, make a back up plan but remember, it’s not over till it is! Have hope! Good luck to you all!
Demonstrated interest is a major factor at AU. Regardless of your numbers, AU doesn’t like to give acceptances to students that see it as a “safety school”. If you truly demonstrated an interest in attending (e.g., interviewed with admissions staff, visited the school, etc.), then everything should be alright.
@uclapack I haven’t demonstrated interest (at all really, besides signing up for the email list thing online) but I don’t think my stats are good enough that I could really consider it a safety, I might be wrong though
@cloudysmom thank you! Good luck to your daughter as well
@geniusa1a it sucks, good luck though! hoping for the best
I visited the school, met with admission rep at my school, and watched their webinars. Hopefully, that is enough demonstrated interest along with my application to get me in.
I’m in the same boat, I just got rejected by Northeastern and waitlisted form Boston College this week, both of which I thought were target schools for me
Has anyone heard anything yet?
@kmags59 I got in but no sign of financial aid or any form of scholarship How about you guys?
I don’t have anything yet… I visited twice and my stats are in their mid-range- starting to get nervous
I just was able to log into my portal- it says Spring 2018 though
I read that couple of people have that problem, O would wait for the actual package to see if that is the case
It’s not definite but it could mean that you’ve been offered a Fall 2017 Internship and accepted for Spring 2018 matriculation. These students are typically housed with other internship and transfer students with a possibility to move in with other freshmen in the spring. Huge concerns for some: 1) Students offered spring matriculation receive $0 scholarship money while attending American. 2) If a student decides American is not the right place, credit for the internship is only recognized at American and will not transfer to another university. Some say American offers this to students who exceed the qualifications to get it and who will receive better financial aid packages from other universities with higher admissions standards than American. Admissions figures if a student really wants to attend, they will forgo great financial aid packages from other schools and pay full price to attend American. Anyone receiving this offer should read all the fine print and ask lots of questions.
@lovingcollege You are absolutely correct regarding financial aid. WMP are not eligible for any financial aid (need based or merit). Your only option will be to borrow the money, and at $30K a semester, it’s not cheap. The lack of financial aid is perhaps the major drawback of the program.
