-Can you return to your dorms?
-What do you usually do?

yup, and homework

also a great time to meet with teachers for extra help, take private music lessons, meet with fellow students on a group project…

study for a test later that day, sleep as necessary

Yes, you can return to your dorm. I usually goof off with friends or do homework. On the days I have first period free, I sleep. I’m not very productive until nighttime. Hahaha.

I don’t think all schools allow kids to return to their dorm rooms during the day.

At Peddie students can go to the dorm, go to the student center, and basically do whatever they want. It’s especially fun when you have a couple hours off in a row :)

You can do basically anything. I tend to do my homework during my two free periods as it makes study hall more bearable. If I’m not doing anything, I’ll go hang out at the Greer with some friends and grab something to eat cause I was too lazy to go to the Dining Hall that morning. Free periods are that part of that rare do anything time at boarding school.

Do you have any specific schools in mind because that might make it easier to answer that question seeing as different schools have different rules?

dharmamom - the only school I visited with my kids that “locked” the students out of their dorms during the school day was Concord Academy. Perhaps some others do, but I don’t think it’s the norm.
