Freshman - 12 units...am I pushing it?

I’m only taking 3 classes fall quarter (4 units per class) so that’s only a whopping 12 units. Is this okay, or am I pushing it? I feel kinda bad because everyone else is taking 4-5 classes, even though I know I shouldn’t compare myself to them. I don’t really want to take a freshman seminar either.

Also, what’s the minimum amount of units to be considered a full time student?

Any input is appreciated =)

I'm taking 3 classes, plus a freshman seminar for a total of 13 units. You need 12 to be considered a full time student, but you need 13 to be in good standing.

Just suck it up and get 1 extra unit :P

you really should consider adding another unit. there are other ways besides a freshman seminar. you could try a PE class which is 1/2 a unit or tractor driving.

I took 12 my first quarter. But then my other quarters freshman year I took 16 and 15.. brining up my average to above 13 per quarter.

12 is the minimum to be full time. But for 'minimum progress' you need to average at least 13/quarter.

First, is there a reason to limit your time in class? Are you commuting or working a job that requires you off campus?

Are you not taking a class because you are not interested in anything else? Perhaps there is a sport or some other class that might expand your interest area. That is something you want to have happen at college.

I took a writing class that changed my approach to writing and was not part of my major or required classes. I also took a fencing class once...just to see what it was all about.

Find another class if you can, but if you don't look for other activities at school that will expand your understanding of the world. Good Luck.

As others have mentioned, please make sure you are meeting the Minimum Progress requirements. More information can be found at http://registrar.ucdavis.edu/update/
