Freshman Applicant Graduating 1 semester early

Hi everyone,

After this year I will have taken almost everything my school offers, if I graduate a semester early and then go to a CCC for that semester but apply as a freshman normally in the fall, am I considered a freshman applicant? Considering UCLA, UCB, Stanford, and some Ivies, thanks.

Also, do any of these schools offer Spring admission?

[University of California - Transfer admission](<a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors) says that you are a transfer applicant if you take any college courses after graduating from high school, other college courses in the summer immediately after graduating from high school.

Can you attend the CC classes while still being formally enrolled (i.e. not graduated) at your high school?

Berkeley does offer spring admission, at its choice, not the student’s choice. For example, students apply for fall 2013; some are admitted for fall 2013, while a smaller number are admitted for spring 2014. The latter have the option in fall 2013 of attending CC, attending a special UC Berkeley Extension program with a limited choice of freshman-level non-lab courses, or doing something other than attending college.

I am currently at the community college for Calc I and English 1A, and I am exhausting all AP’s my school offers (AP Econ Micro/Macro & AP Biology), along with Span III (the highest offered) and Bible (Christian school). I should be class rank 1 after this semester. This is the problem, I transferred from a harder grading school my freshman year (S1 2 B’s, S2 All A’s), they offered SOME honors, but these received no honors credit, I took Honors Eng 9 (one of my the S1 B’s). In between I summer schooled World History. 10th I got straight A’s and took an AP Govt online class and got AP GPA credit and a 4. I summer schooled Precalc/Trig, now I am at the present. I don’t think I am ready to apply at the moment (only class rank 4/42) and not too ready for SAT/ACT (however I could graduate this year). I also need to work on my EC’s as right now I only have 2 yr JV football, 1(spring 2) years V Golf, and 1 year cross country. I am currently on student council and will join debate once it is created. My school has very little, but I am going to try to volunteer locally as well. Anyways, you can see how I am not too ready to apply at the moment. I now know UC policy says this, but I would still be in high school while applying, so would it matter? I may need to call a UC councilor. Finally, I know the option of CCC for 2 years is open, but it does scare me, as I must do really well in CC to get into LA or B.

Thanks!

I did not include the most important point in that post, CCC’s apparently are only allowed to let HS students take 2 courses each semester…

If you take two CC courses in the spring, are there enough of any courses remaining in your high school to fill in the rest of your schedule so that you can remain enrolled there? Even courses like PE, additional art courses, drafting, shop, additional social studies courses, second semester of Spanish 3, etc.?

I am only a junior at the moment, so I will have the same full load this spring. However, next year I will be able to cram in some less productive courses with 2 CCC ones, but it sounds horribly unproductive. I don’t think switching schools would be the right move either, as I am we’ll liked at this one making for good recs and have a high rank plus I need to start eliminating college time to save some money.
Thanks for all of your help by the way
