would you happen to know where the exploration floors are in hayden? like where in the actual buidling? im really putting that first b/c my friend that did ED will be going there and id prefer to have someone i know there if possible, but ive got another friend who is RD and going so its a toss up... but after this week i cant imagine how bad its gonna be without a/c.

I second Goddard.

Is anyone else thinking of doing Explorations? I was thinking of Gotham in Weinstein..or FAME in Brittany...or even Goddard...but eveyone says Weinstein is disgusting so shrug

Can anyone tell me how many floors are in Weinstein? Thanks

I'm on an explorations floor in Hayden- French Language House on the eleventh floor to be exact. Nominated for the best floor in all of NYU!

I applied to the French language floor too...it sounds sooo cool, it was my 1st choice on explorations and I hope I get it. How many people are on it, I wonder, and I wonder if it's pretty popular?

Alright, I'm sending in my decision for 3rd Ave North, any last minute words of advice or discouragement?

Does anyone know when the ED freshman will get their housing information that we need to apply?

Are you all ED Kids?

its official: ive recieved my dorm assignment, ill be in Rubin for NY at Play for the freshman year and ill find out my roommate within a month or so. i didnt expect to know this soon. if you saw the topic i made on this forum it turns out that they did in fact email me someone elses letter with a similar name but i personally have got put in rubin as well. i put my top 2 explo choices in hayden hoping to get in there but i guess there were an overload of NYU show applications and it was my 2nd choice so i had no chance, and the italian casa is canceled, not enough ppl signed up for it even with the fact that it is in hayden. so... rubin... it was my second choice in the regular housing lottery anyway, so thats cool

Wait. You got your dorm assignment? I thought we find out in August. I was ED and did not get mine.

explorations know earlier. roommates we dont know until august, and that is for the whole school. when i said dorm assignments i just meant what dorm i was in, i didnt mean my room assignment also

that is so not cool. August is waaayy too late to find this info. out. Esp. when there is a huge range of prices on the dorms.

very very true. many of my classmates new their roommates before we graduated

I have a job now but i have to save every dime just in case i don't get a LCT.

I am a parent and I am currently attending orientation with my son. According to the housing representatives in our housing workshop NO HOUSING has been assigned yet. Explorations and other special housing may hear in mid to late July and the rest will hear early August. I'm not saying no one has heard, I'm just reporting what the officials said.

Boo! Bad housing department! Bad!

Quick question for anyone who's lived in the dorms - what things do you recommend as must-brings, and what should we definitely leave at home? Also, what comes in the room already, in terms of garbage cans, mirrors, shower curtains, things like that? Are there things you didn't bring that you wish you did? Things you brought that just took up space? If you could answer the questions in general - and specifically tailored to Weinstein, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

All rooms have garbage cans and mirrors in the bathroom (Rubin has full length mirrors on the closet doors but I don't remember if Weinstein does). You need to bring your own shower curtain. They usually have one there, but it is clear and old/nasty (ours was at least). I also brought a toothbrush holder, soap dispenser and hand towel.

When I got there I bought stackable crates to put food/plates, etc. in. You will need to get a fridge/microwave b/c those are not provided in the dorms (apartment styles have them though). Things like cleaning supplies are not provided, and the vaccums they rent out aren't great so my roommate got a small cheap vaccum for our room. The desk lamps are fine to use, but I had another small lamp next to my bed. Bring your alarm clock, of course. There is plenty of storage, but something that was useful for me was a file cabinet which I put next to my bed to keep personal things, medication and my yarn (I'm a crochet-freak) in and I also used it as a bedstand. When I got there I bought some plastic hooks (the kind with the attachable/removable sticky side) for my wall where I hung my keys, scarves/hats/gloves and I put one in the bathroom to hang the hand towel on b/c there wasn't one.

In Weinstein you probably want to get a rug for next to your bed because the floors in the dorms are tile. You'll need cleaning supplies when you get there and I would suggest having an extra light bulb handy because the bulb in our closet went out and they didn't fix it the entire year (the bulb in our ceiling also went out but we were able to fix it ourselves with our extra bulb).

If your a sentimentalist, be sure to bring pictures from home. That was the best thing I think I brought from home.

As far as thing that should have stayed, most of my movies and all my non-school books. I didn't read any...well, actually, I think I read one during Thanksgiving break...but otherwise they just took up way too much space/ were heavy in my suitcase.

That's about all I can think of right now. But any other questions feel free to ask.

P.S. If you are driving to school, bring food/snacks from home to keep in your room. Most anything is cheaper than the food in NYC.

Oh, a plastic set of cups/a plate/bowl/utensils for eating too. I also brought coffee mugs (and a coffee maker too obviously).
