Hi there - so I'll be a freshman at Tulane in the fall. I'm extremely excited, but I have one little problem. I live four hours from New Orleans in a little town called Natchitoches (no airport in little Natchitoches). I was wondering if there was any way that I could have a car at Tulane so that I would be able to conveniently go back home to visit.

I know that freshmen are not allowed cars on campus.

I know that cars are a hassle at Tulane and in New Orleans in general.

I know that I can get around much of the city with public transportation.

But the fact remains: I can't just take a taxi to an airport and fly back home :( I don't plan on going back home often at all. I love Tulane and I can't wait to have a wonderful experience there. But I have a girlfriend back home, and a family that I obviously love, so I'm going to want to go home on a weekend and holidays every once in a while.

So basically, is there any way to park my car around campus?

Thanks everyone!

One can often find parking near campus, but of course leaving a car out in one spot for long periods of time has increased risks of vandalism or worse.

I have never researched this, but surely there must be some place you can park for a monthly fee that isn’t too exorbitant. I am thinking someplace you can get to by streetcar or bus, and then you could drive from there. For example, according to [New Orleans Parking Search Engine - Find Daily & Monthly Parking](http://neworleans.bestparking.com), there is a parking garage in the warehouse district for $75 a month. I found that in about 30 seconds. Perhaps if you do some more extensive searching, try Craig’s List, things like that you might find something closer to campus, but at least this would be accessible by streetcar.

I know a kid who brought his car freshman year and just parked either on campus or on nearby streets. He did say that he got a few tickets but that the cost of his tickets for the whole year ended up being much less than a parking permit would have cost in the first place lol.
