Does Reed consider freshman grades in their admissions? What about non-college prep (sort of like non-academic) grades? Also, do they look at grades for the first semester of senior year? Please let me know, as I couldn't find it on their website. Thanks.

This isn't a very good answer, but I think of it this way.

State schools tend more to do admission by formula; you plug in your data, and see where you can be admitted. Our D did this at UCSD; she was rejected, plugged her data into the formula, thought she should have been admitted, and a call to them resulted in a data input error being corrected, and she was admitted.

Private schools tend more to look at the entire picture. Thus, while your freshman grades will be considered, they probabaly won't be given as much weight as your sophomore and junior grades, and your first semester senior grades if you don't apply ED. Rising grades are good, falling grades are bad.

At http://web.reed.edu/ir/cds/cdssecc200506.html Reed shows that most non-academic items are considered.

The bottom line is that Reed "considers" everything except where you live and your religion, but gives much more weight to some things than to others.

So they dont see senior grades at all if you apply ED? They wont look at quarter grades? The first quarter will end before ED is due.

Also, do they include religion grades? I go to a catholic school, so they make us take religion class, and its added in our GPA, I think...

Thanks :)

Excellent edge question about grades in religion classes!

If the school calculates the religion class grade/s into the GPA, then those grades will be part of the equation.

Whatever grades are available at the time of application (ED or RD as appropriate) should be reported.

Thanks for finding out the answer for me! :)
