D just got an email. They are out. She got her first choice.

Noice…congrats!!

What’s her first choice? Is she a freshman? I still havn’t got mine. Sent to UDel email?

Freshman assigned to Harrington. Sent to udel email

my D got her last choice. Dickenson! ugh… at least she is on the ground floor, (she wanted that) and at the building closest to Rodney. those rooms are super small and far away. Any words of encouragement from someone who has survived this dorm? lol! I am trying to keep a positive outlook for D but I must say I am really bummed for her and concerned it will be a nuisance. This was darn near our worst case scenario, (short of being in a triple)

Same as Lefty1. I will say that based on stuff I’ve read about living in Dickenson, it is far from a bad experience but would also like to read something more recent than what I’ve seen.

My D was in this same spot last year. Harrington was her first choice but she ended up in Dickinson C on the 4th floor overlooking the railroad track. She ended up loving the dorm. It is all freshmen and everyone is looking to make friends. She made a lot of great friends that she is rooming with this year. This year she is in the towers on a floor with 31 of the friends she made who were mostly from Dickinson. She didn’t mind the walk to her classes and at night took the buses which stop right by the dorm.

all of my friends who lived in dickinson last year went in ready for the worst, and came out never wanting to leave. towards the end of the year, there was a lot of “dickinson C4” (etc) senior bar crawls who came through the dining hall… so I would say that means that them loving it wasn’t a fluke.

My daughter is in Lane Hall. Does anyone know anything about this dorm? It wasn’t her first choice but she is happy with the assignment. She had already found a roommate through facebook, and they did get assigned together.

Does anyone know anything about Russell E ? No A/C it looks like. But does anyone know if its in a good spot and how they are inside ?

thanks for the pep talks about Dickenson! I have read similar online but I trust you guys the most! I will be sure to let my D know, as most places it seems the people is what makes UD so great. I’m hoping mine will embrace the opportunities to meet new people instead of mourning the loss of her private bath and spacious room at home. fingers crossed! lol!

My son also just received his housing assignment and is located in Dickinson E 2nd floor. He is less than thrilled as well. I feel your pain Lefty. He wanted Russel '/ Harrington area as most do.

D was in Dickinson 08/09 Entire dorm floor moved over to the towers sophomore year and filled another floor in Christiana , they had an absolute blast living over there in the “Rodjects” as they refer to it. Since freshman year, they are a REALLY tight nit group. Your D will love it once she settles in.

Most will use bikes over by Dickinson/Rodney, not as big of a deal as it appears at first.

My d was bummed also back then but if you asked her today, she said it was THE best year at Delaware, and would never change it.

Regarding Russell … it is a nice place in a good location. Many student say the Russell Dining hall has the best reputation (no, they are not all the same) and it is right there, no walking required. Also close to Perkins, where a lot of clubs meet, etc., and other admin buildings. The bathrooms in Russell are really nice. No AC, true, but that is the case with many other dorms.

So a housing related question for those that are veterans of these boards. D is in Dickinson - 2 in the room. What size TV do I get? I don’t want to wait until I get there on that crazy Saturday and then have to run around that day with the traffic, etc.

Momofgiants - PHEW ! Thank you this is all new to me and I only have the one kid so it’s nerve wracking. Also saw your info regarding text books… great advice… Thanks so much !

You are very welcome! Another nice benefit to Russell … there is an RA and Russell’s Fellow on each floor, which doubles the number of knowledgeable, at least moderately responsible upperclassmen for the freshmen to go to for help.

D will be an RA in Dickinson next year and is “looking forward” to living without AC beginning next weekend when she goes for training. As with some of the incoming freshman, this was not her first choice for an RA location, but, at the end of the day, location is not really a critical issue. On the upside, it is close to Trabant and that part of campus. As others have said, freshman living together tend to form a bond with eachother, which may even be strengthened by a bit of adversity!

Russell also has a lot of activities, like Dr. Munson’s talks, that even some upperclassmen attend. My D’s Russell fellow was an incredible resource for her in freshman year.

Bill124,

TV size, well if not wall mountable, not even sure one can attempt on a cinderblock wall, if you go onto the housing website, I know back then the dimensions of the dresser is on the website. My d roommate brought the TV, it was about 20"+/- flat screen.

Honestly they NEVER watched it, there was a TV in the common area.

When they moved into the apartments, they also never watched regular TV, never even had cable hooked up after sophomore year. Had a netflix account.

Thanks. Sounds like you are saying that there isn’t cable in the room so whatever they are watching is on free tv with a small antenna?
