Freshman Housing Notification

Ya-alim - I’m not 100% sure, but I think you may be in the triple. I enjoyed living in the room so much I didn’t want to give it up. I even stayed in NY one summer to take a class. Lots of sun and cross-ventilation! Wonderful views as well.

At the time there were only a few dorms as many of NYU’s students were commuters. There was no such thing as a freshman dorm. I had lived in Brittany my first semester and moved to Rubin as many of my friends were living there.

I thought it was a great place to live. I don’t really get how students say it’s sooo far away from everything (but then again, I’m someone who, once I graduated, would walk 40 blocks to work).

Best of luck to you and the others living in Rubin. Have a terrific year!

One more thing… Rubin now provides a fan for each room, but I would strongly advise you to bring an additional one. The first couple (and last couple) months can be really hot.

@hkkxp:
ahh i figured that… why would they post it then? so annoying. I really hope they take care of us EDers first… I got the building I wanted and the roommate I requested as of now… so hopefully that wont change. There should be more privileges to being ED ha

heyitzerin, you would be surprised at the amount of clothing a freshmen girl can fit into those closets (which have a shelf above and plenty of space below the clothes bar) and into those under-bed drawers. I suppose you could bring a stack of those plastic bins, but they would take up floor space.

Thanks londonb for all the info!

I was worried a bit about Rubin but looking it up in the nyuhousing livejournal and getting more insight from you makes me feel better. I don’t mind how it could be far away because I like walking. But isn’t it only like 5-10 mins from Washington Square?

K, so I know I am in brittany, but what does this mean

Room BR-0704E-1

I want a low cost, is this low cost? cause that is what I really need. Do you think if I call or email them they might change me to a low cost one?

I was assigned to BR-1105E-2, and I applied to low cost housing (Brittany Hall was my second choice. I’m thinking that maybe the “E” designates low cost?

i’m in BR-0908S-1
and i’m so confused as to what the S means.

I wish NYU wouldn’t get everyone so confused. I read on another CC thread that NYU was going to officially notify all students via email on Aug. 1st. Until then, nothing is official. Did anyone hear differently?

my housing housing profile still says “z Estimated Housing Charg” should I call nyu and see whats up or has everyone not received an assignment yet…

classicalguitar8, people have NOT received their assignments yet, so no need to call.

classicalguitar yeah, don’t call. I was given my housing assignment even though im RD but your def not the only one who hasn’t received their housing yet. just wait till the 1st

did anyone get assigned into U Hall?

here’s what my housing portal shows:
Building U Hall
Room UH-0304A-1

i thought uhall wasn’t a freshman dorm anymore… so uhh i’m super confused O_O

I just got assigned to UHall too, UH-0204A-2

Again, these assignments are not final yet by any means. UHall certainly used to be a freshmen dorm, but is not anymore. Of course – just guessing here – perhaps NYU, like other schools, had a larger-than-expected yield this year and thus need to house more freshmen, meaning they have to house some freshmen in what they planned to use as upperclass residential halls.

my friend was put into UHall (which is not a traditional freshman dorm), and he claims it was because he was waitlisted, that he didn’t get any of his choices for housing. this also happened to another one of my friends, separately. does anyone know this to be true? i mean, i’m sure not all waitlists were put in uhall and not all those in uhall were waitlisted, but could that be a trend?

Yeah, if there’s lots of new students, NYU will place them in upperclassmen dorms. Be happy you’re not in Lafayette.

U Hall was probably the overflow dorm that made the most sense.
