Freshman housing registration?

Hi there, I was wondering how freshman housing registration works. If accepted to UW Madison, it would be a top choice for me but I don’t think I will be deciding on where I go to college until mid to late April.

Can I register for housing before I decide if I’m going to Wisconsin? I read something on the housing website that says if you tell them you’re not going to Wisconsin before May 1st, you can get your full housing deposit back. But I’m not sure if that means I have to commit to Wisconsin first, and then register, or what?

You can register for housing, which includes paying the $300 deposit, before commiting to attend UW-Madison. If your approved housing contract cancellation request is received on or before 5/1/2017 the full $300 deposit will be refunded.
