Freshman Housing

Thanks Go9ersjrh & Pancaked…

Anybody has info on East House. The Good, the bad and hopefully no Evil. Room sizes, closet space etc.

^
S could use the same information for Memorial House.

[Commons Houses Floor Plans](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/55585350/Commons%20Floor%20Plans%20(3).pdf)

There’s a lot of variety even within houses and within floors, so you won’t know that much until the official room assignment comes.

^
There are a lot of single rooms in Memorial. Do you ever get a single room without requesting one?

Yes, it is possible to get a single or a triple without requesting one, but there are few on Commons. I believe if you specifically requested your roommate, you cannot get a single. If you go random, it’s a possibility, albeit small.

Do students use the land line in their rooms? Do we need to bring a phone?

If you wish to use the landline, you have to bring your phone. I have NEVER seen anyone use one. My mom made me bring one freshman year-- I plugged it into the wall and couldn’t get it to work. No idea how to get a phone #. Never would have used it anyway.

I brought a landline and I think I may have used it a couple times for local calls. And it would ring randomly from time to time. Nowadays will cell phones I think the room landlines are essentially useless.

We didn’t get a housing assignment in the mail today and we’re local. Usually if they mail something, we get it the next day. Just thought I’d let y’all know : )

^^
Thanks for the update. Housing told me last week that the packages were going to be mailed on Monday of this week. Let us know when you get yours.

I will! I was surprised because every time they mail something (like acceptance letters, etc) we get it the next day. I really want to get shopping DONE this weekend with the tax free day here in TN. Hard to do when you don’t know what the roomie has!

S is moving in early so I need his address to start ordering items for shipping. We should find out this week. I’d really like to know by Friday since I’m not working that day and was planning to take care of all the shipping items.

Go9ersjrh, since your son will be moving in early, and if you find some time, it would be great if you could post any “wish I would have” thoughts or any other helpful tips you gain from the early move-in. I know I would really appreciate it…

^^
Will do. S moves in on Tuesday, August 13. I’ll try and post that evening.

Thank you and hope all goes well!

My son said his address was listed online in the address change section. I’m waiting until tax-free weekend to buy the stuff in my amazon cart…at nearly 10% sales tax, it’s a nice little savings.

^^
Did your son see an address in the “Campus Residence” field or just in the “Campus Box Address” field?

No address in the address change section for S.

Do we have to wait until August 8th to order items for shipping? My student’s address is in the address change section, but we don’t want to cause any problems for Vanderbilt or have things sent back. Also, what is the tax-free weekend?
