Freshman S-depression, anxiety, panic attacks-withdraw now, or stay and probably fail out?

I am going to say “put your big Mommy skirt on,” and start getting your son the treatment he needs. You are in denial hoping this is just a college adjustment thing, especially with him getting few Bs.

If your kid had mono, would you not have taken him to a doctor while he was home and would you not have kept him at home until you knew for sure he was well enough to go back to school, even if he had finals and papers coming up?

“I just follow his lead.” No, you don’t follow his lead. You take the lead now until he is able. In his current mental state, he is not able to take the lead.

I know I am being harsh, but no apology here. I am surprised you have not consulted any doctors on your own to get recommendations. You shouldn’t be clueless, you’ve had a whole semester of this.

I have a lot of respect for so many parents on this forum whose kids have mental illness. You all seem so knowledgeable and are doing all you can to help your kids to lead a productive life.

I have appreciated all of the knowledge, support, and advice that so many posters have shared with me. I have tried to express my appreciation on numerous occasions. I have never once disagreed with anyone’s comments or suggestions.

There is so much that I could say in response to the above post but that would be pointless. I will take it as my cue to end the thread though.

Thanks again and best of luck to all of you and your children.

Mental illness doesn’t preclude good grades. My son stayed on the dean’s list as a biomedical engineering major, even after being hospitalized for a week shortly before final exams one semester.

I think I will close this thread now, since it’s up to the OP to decide what to do. @ProudMomx3, just remember that you have lots of company on this journey. Feel free to start a new thread if things change or you would like more help.
