Freshman Summer Session

Some questions:
1. If you do not live on campus in the summer can you live in Freshman Experience housing in the Fall?
2. They mention the maximum credit load is 8, is there a minimum?

Sure. I believe Fall FE and summer housing is totally independent. If you decide to dorm on campus during summer, then you'll probably move to an FE dorm in August. If you don't live on campus in summer, then you'll move from home to Tech in August.

I would assume the minimum is 4, but don't quote me on that. GT1000 is one credit, and if you take the course with the least credits (English, Psych, Sociology, etc) they all have 3 credits. Precal and Chem have 4 Credits. I guess the max is 8 since they don't want you to take both Chem and Precal.

I accepted the summer session and the fall waitlist position last Thursday. Does anyone know when we will get more information about what to do next? Will we get a big acceptance packet?

I accepted last Tuesday, the day I got my letter and I haven't gotten anything yet. I meant to call Tech and send my deposits through, but no avail...

"Students who replied to our offer of the FSS before the session filled will receive an acceptance packet in the next two weeks."

I found that on Tech's admission message board. I really hope I replied fast enough.. it would suck if the session was already full.

Im sure you did...I don't know how many spots they left open, but I'm sure those who reply within a few days of getting their letter got in the program. What I'm nervous about is people who PAY the deposit before getting the acceptance packet. I dont' know if they do admissions by the time you confirm online or pay on OSCAR.

I think they're going to have around 200 spots.. Looks like another waiting game.

I don't think you would have to pay the deposit before getting the package.. I did, but that was just because I felt confident at the time.

Well, my letter was postmarked the 21st, and I signed up the 22nd. So <24hrs between mailing and acceptance. The way I see it, unless everyone was like me and ran to their PC before they finished the last sentence, I should be fine. And plus, I'm sure they sent the letter to a reasonable proportion of students too...they wouldn't mail it out to 1000s and have 200 spots.

Haha! That's exactly what I did. I didn't even get to the brochure! I signed up the 23rd. I think we'll be fine. :)

Acceptance packet for Summer 2006 RECIEVED!

Big envolope with Buzz on one side and 'You're a Yellow Jacket' written on the other.

The school website still hasn't updated my profile yet...

Congratulations!!

I received my packet today! They haven't updated my profile yet. I still have lots of questions, especially about financial aid.

Superb!

Looks like we'll be Techies after all, eh? To think we crapped our pants for nothing! My profile hasn't been updated either. I'm having the sneaky suspicion that we'll have to write OIT to get our profiles updated. All I need to know is if the FSS is covered under Georgia's HOPE Scholarship.

Okay, I emailed the admissions office at support@admission.gatech.edu and I'll foward what they tell me.

Have you heard anything yet? My message has changed back to "Thank you for your application for admission and interest in Georgia Tech. I encourage you to visit our campus to experience Georgia Tech's atmosphere and people and discover how you can be a part of our community."

They simply didn't write back. Or at least, they haven't until now. My message changed back as well. I guess that mean's we're fighting for waitlist spots now!

I emailed them today because I am definitely not just a prospective student, I paid my acceptance deposit two weeks ago! I guess they are just really slow in updating.

Wow, I haven't paid acceptance or housing yet! I'm really nervous that we may get really bad dorms since we're holding off so long. My guess is that we'll get into FE, but maybe not the idealized East Campus dorm that we (I) want. They aren't slow in updating it; that's all we get until May 3 or 4, and then it will switch back to "Thank you for considering GT" if we didn't get into Fall Waitlist, and a few days after that, it'll switch to "Congratulations!".

I'm paying my acceptance+housing deposit on Thursday.

By the way, what are you majoring in?

Okay, thanks for clarifying. I was getting ticked that they hadn't updated it!

I am probably going to pay my housing deposit today or tomorrow. I'd really like to get into one of the east campus female dorms, but I don't know if they'd be filled yet. I still have lots of questions about housing.. If I go ahead and send in the FSS housing deposit in with the fall housing deposit, and then I find out I don't have to attend FSS, what will that $600 be applied to? I'm guessing it would be used towards the fall housing, but I just want to make sure.

I called and checked: everything carries over. If you get in on the waitlist, then your Summer Deposit becomes your Fall Deposit, and your Summer Housing becomes Fall housing. FE is NOT available during Summer, so that is moot anyway- FE begins in fall. One or two dorms are open for Summer students, but it is not FE.
