Hi

Is the freshmen classes (professor and date/time) based on when you did your orientation (FASET) ? If you do early FASET or late FASET, does it effect your class selection ?

Thanks

If you check on Tech’s website, there are several FASET:

If you’re OOS then I’d recommend sessions 5 and 6.

Some ppl told me that if you’re OOS, you should come to FASET catered for OOS as you will be meeting academic advisor there who is specialised for OOS students and would be great help in mapping out your classes for freshman year =)

No. You will get the classes you want. Don’t worry.

I would recommend not going to FASET. It sucks. It is a waste of money as well.

Oh to answer your question, nope it doesn’t affect class selection at all. Tech saves room in every freshman class for each Faset group.

FASET is a waste of time for people with bad attitudes. Others find it generally helpful. Depends on whether you want to get involved in the campus and meet people, or not. GT fac/staff are going to assume you have been to FASET and learned everything you need to learn there. Skip it, and you’re already behind 90% of your classmates.

This free advice is only guaranteed to be worth what you paid for it. ;-)

At the OOS FASET, you’ll meet a lot of other people who are going to be ‘all in’ when they go to GT, as they won’t have the option to go home on weekends, and they won’t know a dozen (or two or three) people already, so they might be more open -on average- to meeting new people than at a regular FASET. YMMV.

The advisors will be the same, generally, FASET to FASET, with no special ones available for OOS students.

GPB32 - thanks for the advise. My son is planning to attend the last FASET (Aug 15/16). I was more worried that if his class selection/priority may get affected because he is taking the last one. Some colleges say to attend the orientations early for the same reason.

No, they only release a certain amount of spaces per class at each FASET. That way the people going to the later FASET don’t get all the terrible time slots.

PS: Definitely take the time to make friends at FASET. Most people don’t do this and have really awful FASET experiences. Even though most parts of it are pretty boring, I met some really cool people that I actually became good friends with later in the year.

3coolcats - thanks. I will sign up FASET for my son. Making friends is a real helpful tip.

I made the mistake of going to FASET 1 two years ago. Don’t do it.

When it comes to registration, they only open up a fraction of “spots” in the class during the earlier FASET. For instance, if there are 30 people in a section, only 6 can register for it during FASET 1. If you go to a later FASET, you’ll get X number of seats opened up for that particular FASET, along with the unfilled seats opened from the first FASET (A LOT of students change their mind to and fro).

Also, in 2010, they gave out cooler things in other FASETs they didn’t think to give during FASET 1.

Thanks thingsandetc.
