From De Anza to Cal

Hi. When I first thought of community college, it disgusted me. I wouldn't be able to enjoy the social, frat, and dorm life, not to mention the dining commons and just hanging around a college town with new people. I cried so much because I realized I wasn't good enough for a UC, and it scarred me that I wasn't smart enough either. But now I'm trying to make the best of it and even though I'm still not over with it, I'm trying to maintain some happiness. (It's not working.)

My ULTIMATE DREAM is to be accepted into Cal.

I have read that De Anza has a high rate of transfer students and thats why I'm doing the IGETC pattern. I'm going to briefly write what I'm taking for the fall quarter and I would like to get feedback from current De Anza students about classes are worth taking or its easiness, and teachers to stay away from. I also want to talk to those who have successfully transferred to Cal from De Anza.

Also, I don't know what my major is. I don't know what I want to study. For some time the list has been: Animal studies, Film, English... There was one time in my life when I wanted to work for the IRS. lol

AREA 1 --- ENGLISH

Area 1A : EWRT1A - I took this course over the summer at Cal. I got a B+. The GSI was really helpful, but one worthy essay took a downfall. Thats why I'm so ready to get back at Cal and prove I can do better.

Area 1B : (three options - EWRT 2, PHIL 3, or SPCH 9)
I heard EWRT 2 is easy and good with Modirzadeh, but its a hybrid class. What exactly does that mean? Are the other classes good?

AREA 2 --- MATH

I registered MATH 10 with Danny Tran. So far so good with the reviews on ratemyprofessor.com

AREA 3 --- ARTS AND HUMANITIES

I registered HUMI 1# with Clinchard and ELIT 21 with Quinn. Are they good news? So far so good with the reviews.

I have to choose 1 more class and here is a list of subjects I can choose from: Arts, Danc, Elit, E S, F/TV, HUMI, ICS, INTL, MUSI, PHTG, THEA, WMST, EWRT 1C, and a handful of languages.

Which ones are easy and good to take? Something interesting but not too much work?

AREA 4 --- SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES

I registered for GEO 10 with Holstrom, but the problem is that is it worth it for a night class?

I have to choose 2 more classes and here is a list of subjects I can choose from: Anthropology & Arch, Econ, Ethnic studs, Gender studs, Geography, History, Interdisciplinary, Poli Sci/Govt/Legal, Psych, and Socio/Criminology.

Which ones are easy and good to take?

AREA 5 --- PHYSICAL AND BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

I heard MET 10 with Olejniczack is awesome! But I didn't register for it yet.

I need one physical: ASTRO, CHEM, GEO, GEOL, MET, PHYS
I need one biological: ANTH, BIOL, ESCI

Which ones are easy and good to take? Sciences are not my pick of the day. I'm terrible with them.

So thank you for reading this and hopefully I get some helpful feedback!!!!!

Have a great Sunday!

[Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) can help you determine what courses you need to take to prepare for various majors that you may be interested in.

Basically, you’re asking people to help you decide what your preferences are. Narrow down classes to a few that you’re interested in. Now that you’re in college, you need to be able to do these kinds of things for yourself.

A hybrid class is half online and half FTF (face to face - in class).

Some students prefer night classes because it allows them to work during the day or they can focus better at night. Other students don’t take night classes because they want to get done early, or because they don’t want huge gaps in their schedule with nothing to do in the afternoon.

I didn’t go to De Anza so I can’t comment on some of the specific ones you mentioned, but i took Music 8 online at Foothill with Barkley and it was incredibly easy and fulfilled the Cal American Cultures requirement and one of the IGETC breadth requirements.
