Stressed Out..Any Suggestions As For My Plan?

Hey guys,

I'm a first year student at De Anza CC. Right now I'm in my second quarter. My goal is to transfer to UCI, UCSB, or UCSD (I'll apply to UCLA and UCB, but those are longshots).

This is what my transcript looks like, and should look like. I won't have a problem keeping a 3.0, but it's something of the other requirements I've been hearing that I'm worried about. Just have a look and let me know if it looks like I'm on track as far as transferring please.

Fall 2010: ANTH D002, ARTS D001B, HIST D003A, POLI D001

Winter 2011: EWRT D001A, HUMI D009, PHIL 20B (likely going to drop this with a "W")

Spring 2011: EWRT D002, MATH D114, ECON D001

Summer 2011: ECON D002, ASTR D004

Fall 2011: ESCI D019, PERS D004, Math 49

Winter 2012: MATH 1A, PSYC D001

Spring 2012: MATH 1B

Summer 2012: MATH 1C

All that, after dropping PHIL 20B, puts me at 76 units. I need 14 more, which I will squeeze into Winter 2012, Spring 2012, and Summer 2012.

I know I'll be able to pull of a GPA somewhere between a 3.1 and 3.5.

Aside from that, does everything look on track? I'm mostly concerned about the Math. Is there a specific time I need to take it by, or does my plan look fine?

Any other advice? Do you think I can get out in 2 years?

well there is a thread somewhere on here saying that ucsd is increasing their gpa for TAG to a 3.5!

Yikes. That’s not good.

Well, everyone, it looks like my math schedule won’t be a problem.

My major concern is staying no longer than two years at a community college. So pretty much, by September 2012, I want to be at UCI, UCSB, or UCSD.

Am I making a mistake? Should I take my time and do three years?

Anybody have any suggestions?

you should really consider taking at least 4 courses (16 units) each quarter within the school year and 1 or 2 during the summer. drop in de anza advisors aren’t the greatest but they can definitely help you with your planning and getting out of here. just make sure you complete your igetc and all the courses on assist and you should be able to obtain your 90 units to transfer.

try and provide more insight with what major you’re applying for, extra curricular’s, etc. to better our understanding of your situation to provide a more thorough comprehension of your situation for btter responses

Can you tell me what your major is? I’m thinking you’re an Econ major by the way you laid out your courses.

@Willabee: Is it really necessary to take 4 classes every quarter in order to transfer in 2 years? Based on my calculations, it doesn’t seem to be necessary.

xViral: I am going for Econ, but am open to other Business majors as well.

@thedon23: I seem to remember that, when I transferred to Cal, they had stated that they wouldn’t accept coursework taken during the summer before transfer. You might want to check the transfer pages at the UCs you want to make sure if this is still the case. If so, your Math 1C won’t be counted.

You might also run into a problem with your math courses. When you apply (Fall 2011), you will have only completed math 114 (you will still be enrolled in the pre-Calc course). You might want to consider finding a math course for the summer along with your econ.
Question: Is pre-Calc a necessity or could you begin a summer course in 1A?

Also, Professor Singh (Econ 2) is part of the Adjunct Skills program on campus. If you sign up concurrently for the 1/2 unit course (tutoring and a few labs) you can get a full grade boost in the course. It is, however, not offered during the summer.

@CalBear: Thanks for your response ! So if I take Math 114 this coming quarter, and Math 49 this Summer (2011), would I be in the clear?
