Frost or NYU

Accepted at both schools for music theory and composition....Can't decide...Help!

Frost is close to home in Naples, FL and offers more flexibility if my interests change....and options for other studies in an extra year....Also, perhaps more chances to perform in musical theater in Miami and with group in Naples....ultimate goal is Broadway......

But NYU is in the heart of it all in NYC...and perhaps better for connections.....More rigid course requirements however.....locking me in and making it hard to explore other options

hope someone has some suggestions...must decide this weekend

Frost School of Music at U of Miami vs. Steinhardt School of Music at NYU

My D is going to NYU Steinhardt in violin performance and we were really sold on the diverse performance opportunities arising from collaboration within the university and relationships the school has with the professional music scene in the city. I think Steinhardt -- with its collaboration with Tisch film and musical theatre and its own film scoring program, its large number of student chamber and jazz ensembles, and its proximity to a vibrant new music scene -- will give you plenty of opportunities for your work. The program of study for performance is pretty prescriptive and it sounds like music theory and composition is too, but it makes a lot of sense. And while it might not allow a lot of time for coursework beyond the major and the university's liberal arts requirements, it's in New York City (and Prague) so I'm sure you would find a way to have it all fit your changing interests.

That's another thing that impressed us about NYU. Classical performance at NYU is not oriented to place studdnts on a track toward non-existent orchestral positions, but to help them find and create musical performance opportunities. It struck me as very grounded in the real world and very personalized to the student.
