Frustrated about being Waitlisted?

Sorry for insulting you. It's just that I felt so frustrated that BU didn't think I was a fit for the school. I visited and thought it was nice... and I was considering the school, but they still took me over many people in my school who I believe were less qualified.

I found your previous post insulting, but I guess if I insulted you, then I can't hold it against you that you insulted me.

Tufts is an awesome school... I visited around 3 years ago with my parents along with BU and BC, but I hope that your daughter gets accepted.

Best wishes.

I think they saw you as an overqualified applicant and had Tuft's Syndrome on you. They felt you probably weren't planning on attending and only used them as a safety. I got in with lower stats, so that's most likely the reasoning. In your application, you probably didn't portray enough genuine interest and they saw right through it.

I just talked to a BU rep over the phone. He was real nice and professional, and he explained that they decided to waitlist me because I was not taking a math class this year and because of the downward trend in my GPA. He also said that if they go to the waitlist this year all applicants have a strong chance of being let in. Fair enough, I appreciate his honesty and clarity. I encourage all of you who got waitlisted to call them up and talk to them yourselves.

do you just call up thier admissions office and ask about being on the waitlist or are you suppose to write some type personal letter? I wrote a email to the admissions office the same day i found out that i was on waitlist , but would they tell you the weaknesses of your application over the phone?

They told me my application weaknesses over the phone. I asked the admissions rep if they wanted me to send in any supplementary materials or a letter to show interest, and I was told that the phone call I made to him was already enough to show interest and I would hear from them again around May.

I recommend you try and call them. You have nothing to lose.

Thanks parikhs, I guess it is true, but I visited so I'm not sure why they wouldn't see my genuine interest...

California to Boston is quite a long distance.

CA girl,

I thought you weren't interested? If you are, my GC said to write them a nice letter and call them as well. At this point, it can't hurt right?

I wasn't too keen on it, but my mom wanted me to visit so I did.

So I thought that would be enough, but oh well.

To find out more, I recommend calling admissions and speaking to the specific regional director for your area as they personally handled your application. They had over 30,000 applicants this year. My daughter was offered admission. The bottom line is that these are private schools and they can admit using whatever criteria they choose. The problem is that it is impossible to really know the system of any college admissions department becuae they all want everyone to apply.

Well said issymom!! We never know the formula for what they are looking for, but it's always more than just "stats".
