Frustrated with UCF

Agree, if I knew what UCF’s admission process was for out of state students I would have discouraged application to it. I think this may have a lot to do with their Top Ten Knights admission guarantee for FL applicants. But that’s just a guess since D was admitted to every other college, in and out of state, within 2 weeks of application. This program is the only real difference I have found, besides rolling admissions, in the admission practices of the schools.

The OOS acceptance rate has hovered around 30% over the past couple of years. I agree that Top Ten Knights probably takes up a lot of acceptance space and also holds up decisions. They probably need to stop “rolling” admission, because for many, it really isn’t! Sitting in limbo is just awful!

My D18 is OOS and heard back by September and it took longer because of the hurricanes- so it’s not necessarily an OOS problem, lots of in state kids sit in limbo as well. D18 was a full IB kid- Florida schools really value IB, it probably helped, because her SAT was mediocre.

@LuckyRebel - Finally, a decision was posted today. My average-student OOS daughter was declined, and that is definitely okay. Now, we can move on with the decision making, as we compare the finances of all of the other colleges, including Florida Tech and Florida Southern College. D wasn’t even disappointed. She said that it took so long, that she had already decided that if she picks a school in Florida that it will be Florida Tech.

We got a decision too, accepted. I’m almost 100% sure D will attend, she already had us pay the deposit. But she didn’t want to make an announcement to family yet bc it’s far from home and a little scary. Yep, dreams are sometimes.

@TwoHighSchoolers I wish your daughter the best wherever her path takes her

Thank you to all of you for listening, suggestions and letting me vent to you. It helped me greatly.

@LuckyRebel congratulations to your D! Make sure you register for housing ASAP.

@jeneric Thanks so much. It’s quite a relief to finally have a decision. I spent the day today figuring out housing and reading the housing contract. She is a hospitality major and wants to live at Rosen Apartments and shuttle to main campus.

Still waiting on my decision… Applied in November as a transfer student. However, I know that a lot of decisions have been going out lately, so I guess I will see. I have two safety schools, but I have a feeling I will either be denied or be accepted for summer. I called and they say that they have everything they need, so now I guess is just the waiting game.

@Brooke98 I’ll be sending positive thoughts your way. Please keep us posted.

Accepted 2/26 for the fall 2019 term.

I also registered just to join this thread @LuckyRebel @TwoHighSchoolers ! I started googling “UCF waitlist” at 6 am and here I am now. I’m beyond frustrated too! My son applied in early October with unweighted 3.7, weighted 4.7, AICE/Cambridge classes, 1240 SAT. He was “pending” for a period of time and then deferred and now waitlisted. Like all of you, this is his first choice school. He’s been accepted to FSU and UNF but I know he is not super excited to go to those schools but feel like we need to put a deposit down so we don’t have all of our anxious eggs in this one UCF basket!

I too have not wanted to call the school on my own and he has done all of the communicating. After reading all of these other comments here and on some reddit threads, I told my son that if he really wants to give it his best effort, he needs to send admissions a personal letter and maybe another letter of recommendation from a teacher. Hoping this helps him get an answer sooner than later.

I was very discouraged by what I read on another thread about the number of admitted students from the waitlist as indicated on the UCF common data set for 2018-19. It says that 6327 students were given the opportunity to be waitlisted (which is defined as students who meet the admission criteria but are waiting for space to be available), 2983 accepted a place on the waitlist, but ONLY 54 were then admitted from the waitlist. This seems crazy! I reviewed the same date from 2017 and 2016 and it’s comparable. I don’t see how the number could be that low and does it include students who were then admitted to summer term instead?

I really never thought this would happen and I’m stressed about the waiting and tough decisions that need to be made very soon :frowning:

@springsmom have you heard back? My son has applied for computer engineering fall 2019
SAT 1450 GPA 4.5 and all documents submitted by Nov 13th. His myUCF status still says pending…?

We are still in the “wait list” waiting game too. I spoke with admissions a couple days ago (again) and was told new documents can still be submitted and she gave me a specific email address to send docs to. She said my daughter would have an answer BY April 15 (sooner if new docs were sent in) We’ve had to make housing deposits at her other 2 choices but of course UCF is her first choice so she’s waiting until April 15 to make a final decision.

I would suggest sending in a resume. I was deferred and then accepted a week after I sent in my resume

@Danif99 She’s sent a resume, another letter of recommendation, and a letter expressing her continued interest. Hoping for an answer soon!

He is officially waitlisted which feels like purgatory. Since my first post I did speak with an admissions counselor and she said he “looks very competitive for summer or spring admission” Really hoping for summer! She said the next round of admissions will be on April 15th and then the last ones will go out after the May 1 deadline. Maybe he should call admissions and ask what the difference means between “pending” and being listed on the waitlist. I would think he would have already been accepted with those scores. She told me the benchmark scores for this year fall admission were 26 ACT and 1270 SAT. Fingers and toes crossed they both hear something positive on Apr 15!

After this week we should see some students decline their invitations as many reach schools are announcing. I think the would benefit waitlisted students and those still waiting for decisions.

So much for the UCF net price calculator. We got $0 aid (all loans). Needless to say, as OOS my S will not be attending.

@LuckyRebel @TwoHighSchoolers What course did your daughter apply to? Sorry to ask … and what gpa and sat?

@Danif99 Did you send by mail or e-mail?

@Gramm4 What course did you apply to? Sorry to ask … and what gpa and sat?
